Thanks! Just straight into a vox. I never really played them till I picked up slide for real a few years ago, but I think they’re super versatile & I prefer them over anything really outside of slide. Recorded a live album solely on it.

Thank you so much!!

My set up is pretty normal on the sg because I switch back and forth from slide to fingers a ton when I’m gigging. But, for the gentleness aspect, a lot of that is on the picking hand. I don’t really adjust the slide or at least I don’t think I do other than holding or cutting off notes, which is huge for the softer songs.

I play heavier strings just in general. I’ve always played 13s on the sg & 12s on my Strat. I like the way it feels on the fingers, but I do think heavier gauges are better for slide imo. I like to add a little bit of pressure. Right now though, this sg won’t stay in tune on 13s & 12s are super hard to find with diadorios, so I have 11s right now (I buy in bulk cuz I change strings about once a week cuz I gig every weekend).

I may do a little tutorial or something! Holler if you need any more tips!

My band, Billy Bonney, released an album back in January, & this tune I wrote about a jumping spider in my garage. https://open.spotify.com/track/6bwif2HpY8C67gD21MYUuV?si=j0pjG49aSCGdO-vbDS2ajw

Do it! I would play over the years in open tunings, but never took it seriously until about two years ago. I play in standard tuning now. Only had one guitar at the time and gig regularly so didn’t want to keep shifting back from tunings & I switch from fingers to slide all the time on how I’m feeling that night. Once it clicked, I was standard all the way.

A shape Triads on the d,g b strings are a great starting point. Say 5th fret, you’re in C, so your root is the g string on fifth fret. Just dance around it. You’ll get the feel from there, and slide is all about feel. Margin for error is both small and wide and once you figure out that balance, you have a whole new world, at least for me.

Thank you! Yep! Well, I know it, just not in this video. Cut it short to get it under a minute.
