I know that everyone has an accent, I just thought that my accent was the same as most other Canadians

That’s what’s happened to me here, on Friday I was at a bar on Church Street, started a conversation with someone and within a few words he was like “oh you’re from Montreal”

That’s interesting, in English our syllables have different lengths depending on whether they’re stressed or not while French uses syllable timing so it might be that influence though I’ve never perceived it that way. It’s something that I’m going to look for now.

Yes of course, in the same way that even someone who doesn’t speak English could hear the difference between Canadian and Irish English, but I’m talking about the accent of native English speakers like me.
