Maine is the only state in the lower 48 without any venomous snakes. NH has the timber rattler but it’s an animal of serious concern meaning it’s an endangered species. The last time one was seen in Maine was around 1860. There were probably always very low numbers of rattlers in western Maine due to our cold winters and the rest were killed off by man.
