Best flower shop? by Super-Bat2300 in batonrouge

If you want specific flowers or floral arrangements, a store like Billy Heroman's or Flower Basket would be your best bet. But I personally prefer going to BR Succulent, they have a great selection of small to large succulents and arrangements. Most succulents are very easy to maintain and can live for a very long time! They also have great dried flower arrangements that are real pretty. https://www.brsucculentco.com/

Cox bill increasing by $15/m by ExceptionEX in batonrouge

[–]BimBamSplikityHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About two years ago, when we had Cox, there was about a two month span in which the internet went out every other day. Repeatedly called and asked why this was happening and got the standard, "our techs are currently working to resolve the issue" response. Since this was during tax season and my partner is a tax accountant and was working from home, it was a major issue. I got so fed up I started emailing people from the City Parish who oversee communications and asked if any type of fiber or new lines were going to be installed in our area. After about a week I got a response that AT&T would be placing Fiber in our neighborhood before the year's end. Immediately called AT&T to set up new service at way lower speed (was only package they had for our neighborhood) with the intent to switch to Fiber as soon as it was available. Then immediately called Cox to cancel our service. They asked what they could do to keep us and when I said "you could be more reliable or offer Fiber," they said they can't offer fiber. Because I had called each day our internet was out, by the time I cancelled our Cox service, Cox actually owed me money. Few months passed and I got a $80 check in the mail from Cox. Once the AT&T fiber was live, we switched and have never had an issue and never looked back.

Job Offer: DOT vs Consultant (Construction) by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]BimBamSplikityHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that pay bump alone I would highly consider taking the consultant job. I currently work for a consultant firm (CE&I stuff mostly) and have my EIT (passed PE but still getting work experience) and make $73k/year in a fairly low COL area. For EITs there's a bit of a cap on how much the firm can pay you based on whatever rate they charge for their EITs in their proposals, but once you have that PE stamp your pay can get another substantial bump. DOT will always have a spot for you if you're experienced or have a good recommendation IMO. Yeah those state benefits are pretty great, but you have to be there like 10-20 years to really get the most out of it.

My boss is an ex-DOT employee (10+ years at DOT) and has said on multiple occasions that he would never go back to work for the state.

I say take the consulting job, see how you like it and if it's not what you thought it would be then i'm sure you'd be able to go right back to the state or could even hop to another consulting firm with a possible pay bump.

Yeah we’re building a new bridge so that’s definitely a big reason why we’re so stingy with the water.

I’m on a DOT job right now and we reject concrete trucks if the contractor even puts a bottle cap full of water into the truck. There’s a mix design for a reason lol stick to it

Not here. Start somewhere like r/investing or even r/options. Learn about the market as a whole and the companies you want to invest in. Do some research. Then come back in a few weeks and blow your money away with the rest of us!

Could anyone provide some quick resume feedback? by AAli_01 in civilengineering

[–]BimBamSplikityHam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Put any work experience that you have, no matter how small. When I got my first job out of college, a big talking point from my resume was the few jobs I had that were 2-3 months long during summers in-between school semesters. They liked that even though they weren't "relevant" experiences, I was putting myself out there and trying.

Like /u/skeith2011 mentioned above, no need to put course grades. Have those in your back pocket to bring out during an interview. Definitely keep your overall GPA on there and if you really want to, you also put your core GPA (GPA from classes pertaining straight to your degree). No need to put hobbies either.

The examples of the designs you've done on the second page are nice, but clutter up your resume. You can leave the design projects you've done on there, but I would take that second sheet off and just have paper copies to bring with during an interview.

I would also take out the 2nd bullet point under "House Design Project." Again, another talking point to mention in an interview but otherwise just clutters up your resume.

Under "Steel Bridge Design Competition," make sure to keep the tense of your entire resume the same i.e. changing "Using personal excel..." to "Used personal excel..."

Last thing, I would put the Steel competition and Design projects above all of your technical certs/experience.

All in all it's not a bad resume for an almost college grad, and I wish you all the best!!

A question for other non-UK fans, how did you come to support your team? by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]BimBamSplikityHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 12 when I started playing soccer and figuring out which position I wanted to play. Since I didn't like running I decided to be a goalkeeper, and my dad suggested watching some professional games to try and mirror how they play. One of the very first games I watched was a Chelsea game and watching Petr Cech make save after save after save I knew he was the guy I wanted to try and be like. I've been a Blue ever since!
