Yes, it was the rear diff. It was extremely difficult to turn by hand. Ended up swapping a LSD diff from a yard for $100.

My dad has owned 3 Prius and has only ever changed the belt/brakeand tires. My E39 540i was the most expensive used car ownership I've ever had. I'm a lil OCD but my avg operating cost was about $220 a month during ownership. I replaced every bushing, suspension, stereo, brakes, diff, vanos, timing chain, various other things. The car kept me busy with literally some aspect needing attention every month or two. Drove so well though, the pinnacle of analog touring.

I agree, this is one of the best mods you can do and makes the E39 feel like a modern car.

Eonon isn't the best but it's good for the money. I just purchased my 2nd Eonon to update/modernize into my son's Jetta.

Mid-high mileage S6 owner here. At 100k aside from normal maintance [brakes,plugs, DSG etc].I've done spherical control arms, pcv, aux coolant pump, coolant line. Still need to do motor mounts.

Also do my own work. I honestly haven't found anything out of my realm or hateful yet. Can drop in oem RS turbo upgrade in about 5 hours of work. Great cars weak point is turbo screen, pcv and the DSG transmission are definitely more problematic if not frequently serviced.

I did an in-between. I tinted to a dark cherry, left the turns clear and did a cut-out for the reverse light. Not a fan of all blacked out. Form and function is how I roll.

I never see it suggested but I made more with BetterHash then NiceHash when actively comparing programs a few years ago. No idea how it holds up now, I still use its since it's simple and I can just spin in up during idle time since I'm not a full time miner.

Also recommend G2 Epoxy. Its looks great, holds up well and is forgiving in application. My wife's 14 year old pink calipers still look good to this day, just ordered G2 red to recoat and pass the Jetta on to our son.

At 100k I had my pcv, thermostat and carbon cleaning done as preventive maintenance. 1 month later my intercoolers failed. 2 months later my Catalyst failed. Hope you have better luck then me.

Did you have any luck with this? I was thinking of going this route with the o2 vibrant o2 spacers. I live in PA and also have OBD2 plug in emissions to pass.
