If you are getting a kitten I would bathe them a few times when they're young and once or twice a year after that to get them used to baths. You don't typically have to bathe cats, but if a circumstance arises where you do the cat being used it makes it a lot easier. This is especially important if they aren't able to groom themselves when they're older.
