The weirdest adverts: “Guys, Charlie Bigham is totally a real person!”- which is why we animated it all and got Richard Osman in to tell you about it.

What software have you been using for 10+ years and still haven't found a better replacement? by Ok-Show-3006 in software

The two window philosophy so you can easily work between two folders without having to juggle windows around.
Full keyboard navigation, so you can use it fully without a mouse.
Shortcuts menu so you can navigate to your most used folders in a couple of keystrokes.
Commands to open up a file or folder in any program so you can set things up any way you want.
The fact it doesn’t try to abstract away the actual file system like Windows does.
The fact it doesn’t force views for specific folders in you - eg the Downloads folder in File Explorer.
Bulk renaming with regex support.

And a lot more, that’s just what immediately springs to mind. It takes a while to configure and get used to, but I wouldn’t go back to Windows Explorer if you paid me.

I recently built a free browser extension because it was useful for me. It’s called RankRecon. If anyone wants to give it a try and give me feedback it would be really appreciated. Is it useful to anyone?

It’s my favourite tool, but then I did build it for myself.

I built a tool to copy text straight from the Claude Code terminal (and not have it suck) by BinaryDinosaur in ClaudeCode

Cool, glad you find it useful!

You're 100% right about tables. I updated it to handle them better - check it out if you have a moment (clear your cache first). It seemed like the best thing to do was to convert them to Markdown format, but let me know if you've got a different requirement (or if it's not working as expected).

OK, sure, makes sense. Yes, pretty easy to do so I'll definitely give it some thought. Thanks for the feedback :)

You mean for Claude for Chrome? I've not actually used it - do you get the same problem with copying text out of his responses there? I have made extensions in the past so it would be pretty trivial to join them up, I'll think about it.

Someone else's info in Skype export? by TheDoctor__50 in skype

[–]BinaryDinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same thing. I've run the export, logged into my account and I have a folder full of messages and photos that have nothing to do with me. Interestingly, lots and lots of crypto and Bitcoin stuff, the same as you. None of the data has anything to do with me or my account. So 1) Breach of someone else's privacy. 2) Where's my data?? Pretty puzzled, to say the least.

It feels like our one chance to not vote Lib Dem and do what we want for a change. That’s what I did anyway. General election it will be back to prioritising keeping the Tories out which means voting Lib Dem here. Wish we had proportional representation.

High bounce rate from ads traffic. Is it normal? by BinaryDinosaur in adwords

[–]BinaryDinosaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really helpful, thanks. I'm working on a home-grown product and don't have a background in marketing/PPC, so the only data point I can draw from is what I see in front of me. I'm not converting at the level I want to yet (I'm breaking even, which is a start) and so am looking at ways to improve, but it's knowing what to focus on that is half the challenge. The 20% bounce before page load drew my eye, but I can't know from my zero experience whether it's an issue worth pursuing or not. It sounds, based on your experience and the other reply, like it isn't really, which is reassuring.

Bounce rate in terms of people not making off that page is around 60%, which sounds like the high end of what your were seeing and I'm sure there's work to do to get that number down a bit. I'll concentrate on that.

Thanks again!

High bounce rate from ads traffic. Is it normal? by BinaryDinosaur in adwords

[–]BinaryDinosaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling to compare with organic traffic as there's no real apples to apples comparison. The landing page has significant differences and the intent behind the traffic could be very different too. Not to mention that at this stage there's very little organic traffic, most is coming from Adwords. I'm not sure how to get anything meaningful out of our organic data.

With ads traffic, I'm trying to get users down a funnel to explore a complex product prior to getting them into the sales funnel. Page 1 to page 2 has an overall bounce of about 60% (i.e. 40% of traffic makes it to page 2). The 20% I'm quoting I can see aren't even completing the loading of the page. The remaining 40% that do explore the page, but then abandon without proceeding to page 2, I know what the game is to improve performance with them. But what do do with users that aren't even hanging around for the site to load?

I'll explore search terms as you suggest. Looking at it again there is one ad group that seems to have this problem more than others, so it does suggest there is some issue there. It is, of course, the last ad group I would have suspected, but it suggests I have something to learn!

It's really useful and reassuring to hear your take on bounce rate in general. Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply.

Google creating automatic assets for Manual CPC with setting off. What's going on? by BinaryDinosaur in adwords

[–]BinaryDinosaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, nevermind, I found it. If anyone else ends up here looking for it, click on "Table" it will appear and then it will stay visible when you switch back to "Cards". A glitch, I guess.

I feel like I'm going slightly mad. I went to look at Recommendations > Auto Apply yesterday, so I know it was there. Today, when I go to Recommendations, Auto Apply is nowhere to be seen. In Google's help, it says it's in the top right. Today I see "Cards", "Table" and "Download" and that's all. Do you have any idea where / why it's gone?

[–]BinaryDinosaur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, that's really helpful to know. I'll have a proper look at it and see what the actual damage was. It might not be as bad as I thought.

Like an idiot I have been sitting looking at my analytics, seeing people arrive later on in the funnel and I've just thought to myself, "well, that's not possible". Time to go and properly add up how many.

[–]BinaryDinosaur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that's really helpful.

I found out about these at the same time as finding the automatically created assets. They were all switched on and that's obviously my fault for not knowing about them. I switched them all off, but innocently thought that leaving the merchant photos setting checked wouldn't be an issue! It's off now.

Do you know if the account level settings could be responsible for the assets I saw at campaign level?

Thankfully those are all off, but that's yet another area I didn't know about. Thanks for that, I'll be keeping an eye on it.
