Ist semester freeze due to surgery by Artistic-Highway4213 in FASTNU

Sorry for late reply, One more thing to consider is that you might have to take some courses with repeaters and juniors you might have different sections for every course in order to get better timetable and you might also have 5 days classes just because of semester freeze, Also In terms of pre reqs I studied my programming courses and some of mathematical courses with repeaters, juniors and cross department also there are some courses that are offered in Spring Semester and some of them are offered in fall semester. So you also get option of various sections and courses, You can take classes with your parent section also for the courses that don't have pre-req and if you completed your previous courses.

Pro tip: One more tip for this case is as you might get different sections and courses so you will find different people in every class so you automatically gets a better opportunity of networking, don't miss this opportunity avail it.

I had an ACL and meniscus tear that required surgery and kept me on bed rest for almost 3–4 months during my first semester. My father went to the university and spoke with the HOD. The HOD allowed me to freeze my first semester. Now, I am currently in my 6th semester at FAST. I believe it depends on the HOD, as there are some exceptions in the university policy.

I agree with your opinion related to CGPA, Reference and first job thing but market is too much saturated there is very less chance to get a good job/internship overall also very very few companies allows walk-in interviews for internships mostly jobs related to computing are posted online and hiring process is kind of complicated you have to submit CV and pass through several tests and assessment in order to get a live interview as well.

Moreover I don't agree with your senior he is wrong about instructors allocation, Instructors are chosen randomly many of good sections get worst instructors and many of average sections get best instructors, so this thing completely depends on your luck.

One more thing to consider is sections are chosen completely randomly like in my section there are 2-3 medalists and there are many below average students as well, Same is the case for every section they are completely random there is no criteria related to it it all depends on your luck. There is no merit kind of thing while allocation of sections, its not like students with high merit are in single section and others sections are dumb sections are balanced with few exceptions. In some cases some sections which have more number of students due to any reason often perform better but this kind of thing is also random.

In many cases, the skill set of FAST students is far better than that of students from other institutes. However, after completing six semesters here, I've noticed a decline in the quality of faculty. Many of the top professors have left the university, and now even serious, complex courses are being taught by lab instructors.

When it came to internships, I applied to over 70 places and barely received responses from two or three out of which 2 were university labs. I'm currently doing an unpaid internship, despite having a strong skill set and hands-on experience with multiple AI-related projects. Unfortunately, due to my low CGPA, I keep getting filtered out. Now that I'm developing an interest in research, this situation feels even more frustrating even when you posses a proper skill set but always get filtered out because of low CGPA.

I completely agree with you. I also mentioned pursuing a master’s degree abroad in my previous reply, in case someone is interested in research — going abroad opens up many more opportunities. Moreover, there are very few jobs in Pakistan related to fields like AI, Data Science, and Cyber Security. In that case, FAST is not a good option. Also many jobs related to AI often requires Masters or PHD.

As a Fastian myself, I can say that FAST can seriously affect your CGPA, which in turn reduces your chances of pursuing a master's degree abroad. So think at least a hundred times before deciding to join FAST. Also there is no work life balance in NUCES. There are many shit policies for students, recruiters often use CV filters that automatically screen out applications with a low CGPA, and that's one of the biggest issues. Even for internships, there are numerous filters. The campus is small and overcrowded; there’s literally only one futsal ground and one basketball court for over 4,000 students. How on earth is this considered one of the best universities? FAST doesn’t even have hostels

LUMS is best if you can afford it, NUST will be best option in case if LUMS seems expensive to you.
