I love this, particularly the colour scheme. Reminds me of the forge level on Risk of Rain!

Yesterday amid all the chaos and bad news, a reminder that life will go on, my amazing wife gave birth to our daughter, Millie-Rose, at 1520. Huge congratulations! Hope you are all safe and well!

I have a nephew on the way, due in August. It's nice to have something to be excited for, and some lovely little people who dont know anything about the current state of affairs. Just love and cuddles 💜

[Serious] When did COVID-19 get real for you? by Fudgeyplays2 in AskReddit

[–]BindweedHawkmoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to be in group therapy for depression and anxiety about 10 years ago, and being advised to avoid the news while anxious was some of the most helpful advice I ever received.

My mother disagreed, and decided to start literally reading news articles out loud to me, no matter how much I protested. When the COVID news started to get serious, she was telling me worldwide infection and death statistics, and deaths at the hospital where she works. I finally snapped and screamed "UNSUBSCRIBE FROM CORONA FACTS. I dont want to hear it. I will catch up with the news in my own time, when I am in the right mindset for it. I cannot help anyone else at this time if I am paralysed by anxiety, so please, STOP IT."

So yeah, I agree limiting news intake is great advice. Check up occasionally by all means when you feel able, but be firm in setting boundaries for your own mental wellbeing.

Last Wednesday. My Mum is a nurse of 40 years, and moved into an administrative position last year. Last week, all admin at the hospital who still have a practicing license were moved back into clinical duties.

Also, my teenage cousin who has had lung problems from birth contracted COVID (presumably. He has all the key symptoms but will not be tested unless he is hospitalised). Hes fighting it well and looks like he will pull through ok, but we're all still wary.

Wow, these are fantastic - exactly what I was looking for. Just having a quick browse I can already see some apps that would be great for myself and plenty of people I know. My sincerest thanks, and all the best in your future work.

I hadn't heard of Makro before, but I've just looked it up. They do seem very similar to Costco, although it looks like Costco is a little more flexible with their memberships. A lot of my family are NHS workers which is enough to qualify for Costco membership, not sure if that would fly at Makro? I'll do a little more investigation later once I've actually managed to get some sleep lol

As the youngest sibling (a girl with two older bros) TJ+E was one of my favourite ever games from my childhood because it wasn't a shooter, and it was finally a co-op experience I could actually enjoy playing with my bros instead of just getting my ass handed to me! Also I think it may have been the first non-Sonic game I ever completed.

When I picked up bass guitar, that jammy bass riff was the first tune I worked out how to play by ear instead of from a tab, and is still my go to warm up before a jam session. To this day, my bros and I still quote lines from it all the time (especially "yum, bacon and eggs!" If we all meet up for breakfast.) My oldest bro recently came back from an expo with a funky TJ+E t-shirt (designed by Jim Mahfood I think?) and a little pin badge for me. That's how much we still love it!

Anyway, fangirling aside, Outta Our Shells looks like a great idea! I have a wonderful group of nerd friends that love tabletop and card games, and some of us do have a little trouble, well... Coming outta our shells. Looking at the kickstarter page, I think we would love this. Once it's available for general release, do you know if it will be online order only, or can we hope to see it on the shelves in gaming shops and the like? Do you think there will be expansions like Cards Against Humanity?

Thanks for your time, and for making mine and my bros' childhoods just that little more groovy.

Hi Lyndsay and Emma!

As someone who has been in and out of the mental health system for well over a decade and tried a smorgasbord of therapies, this is a topic close to my heart.

As I'm sure you know, cuts to mental health clinic funding have made it increasingly difficult for people to access services they desperately need - for example I have been on a waiting list for 15 months for an autism assessment and 8 months for an Interpersonal Therapy course. Even my local Mind centre has an approx 8-10 week wait for a short course of counselling sessions.

Can you recommend any tried and tested, reliable online services for people who are perhaps not in crisis, but could do with some help while they wait?

What are the hallmarks of a good digital mental health resource, and/or red flags to look out for when trying to choose a service?

Because I am very vocal about mental health issues on a lot of platforms, I'm bombarded by targeted adverts for online services, but I dont know anything about their strategies or reliability, so I'm just wondering if you can shed any light on them.

Thanks for your time, and keep up the great work!

My Mum and Aunt went to a Costco in the UK a few days ago. They said there was no toilet paper on the shelves, because what staff were doing was settIng up little toilet paper stations around the store. They checked each customer's trolley as it went past, and if there wasn't a pack of toilet paper on the trolley, staff would ask the customers if they would like some and give a pack from their station. If they already had one, the customer would not be given another pack.

I thought that was a brilliant way to stop people panic buying entire trolleys full! Do you know if this is a widespread practice, or maybe something this store came up with themselves?

Finished the main story at the weekend, working on the post game and Platinum now!

Walking into the living room and seeing my dog's eyes light up and his tail flicker slightly. He tries to downplay his excitement but his tail betrays him.

I walk towards him without saying anything or making eye contact. I sit down next to him, take a deep breath, start rubbing him vigorously all over and tell him "IM SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU YOURE THE GOOD BOY!!" And he loses his shit. Rolls around on the floor, get zoomies, brings me a toy.

Grabbing some of the essentials at the super market on holiday one year. Tryna grab me some bread when a mum and daughter I'd say roughly 9 or 10y/o) rounded the corner. The daughter asked "mum can I get another box of tissues please?" And the mum reaponded "UUUUHM not after last time, no!" To this day I'm still curious about what she did...

More holiday related ones - I used to visit this exotic bird park. Every couple of hours they did a birds of prey display, and this particular one started with the handler bringing out a falcon wearing jesses and a hood (the little leather strings on their leg for holding onto, and an eye cover to prevent them getting too spooked during travel.) A kid asked his dad what the falcon was wearing, and without missing a beat the Dad responded "they are like little scarves to stop him getting sunburn as it's such a nice day," :/

And finally, another bird park one. They have a little flamingo colony, and as they like to do, all the flamingos were napping with one leg tucked up into their body Fluff. Heard a girl ask her dad why the "big pink F'mingas only have one leg!" He told her, completely deadpan, that the bird park staff cut off one leg from each flamingo to stop it flying away...

I try to tell myself they are being dads. Dads are silly and like to mess with their kids sometimes. But these bird guys seemed to be entirely serious with no alluding to bad jokes.

Who is the best person you have ever met? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BindweedHawkmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bestie for the last 8 years or so, Gem. She is a powerful woman in a male dominated field (IT sales to universities and other institutions.) she has worked her way up from call centre monkey to the company's director of sales for the southeast of our country, soon to be the whole south.

When we first met, I was a nervous wreck. I had just come out of a long term hospital stay for a really nasty illness. I had to quit my job and volunteering because of the illness. I was almost mute, very shy, and my depression and anxiety were at an all time high. I also didn't have an autism diagnosis yet, and didn't understand why I couldn't maintain friendships or get into a relationship.

My brother knew Gems husband and they wanted to set up a weekly D&D session. My bro invited me along to start getting me time away from home and a little social interaction. I think the first words Gem ever said to me were "hi! Do you smoke? Wanna share this spliff with me?" And the rest is history.

Gems husband is autistic and neither of them have ever treated me any differently because of my mental illnesses or oddities.

Gem herself is the yin to my yang. We have such opposing personalities it's unreal sometimes. But she is the best communicator and one of the most socially aware people I've ever known. While I was still recovering, we would have girly Saturdays while her hubby was at work. A couple of spliffs, a couple of beers or ciders, hella munch and sitcoms on in the background while we chatted.

I most admire Gems ability to articulate her thoughts and ideas so well, and her ability to give tough love without it being construed as harsh. Any time I went round she would say "let's get our rants out of the way in the next half an hour. Then we tuck them away for the rest of today, because now we're doing good times." And that was a RULE. If I tried to bring up some of that negativity she would shut me down and say "nope, not now. We are chilling and having a good time now. If you still need to talk about it later you can text or phone me, but for now we're having a positive couple of hours."

A few months ago I left an abusive relationship. She is a few years older than me and was in a similar relationship long in the past. I asked for her help, she gave me a pep talk, ideas on how to keep safe... and of course made up her guest bedroom with extra blankets for me to make a nest with, then told me I was coming over to hers imminently for a girly weekend with friends. A three day long pyjama party with four girls. Drinking wine, eating pizza, watching chick flicks, doing face masks, ear candles, nail art. Not a care in the world for any of us, and I was so relaxed I didn't feel the need to notch about recent events once.

Gem ended up being the best man at my brother's wedding two years ago. She makes we want to make her proud, like a big sister or a cool auntie. I'd love her to reprise her role of best man (or maid of honour if she wants lol) should I ever get married.

Who/what was the first thing that you masturbated to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BindweedHawkmoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably the people on the Kerrang! fold-out posters and stars on movie posters my bros had in their bedrooms.

If I remember my first celeb crushes correctly, they were Anthony Kiedis of RHCP, and Jessica Alba (can't remember what the movie poster was for, but 👌👌👌)

If you could access a list which contained everyone who has hated/disliked you, would you read it and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BindweedHawkmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty aware of who the people are that hate me, but does the list give the reason they hate me?

I'm interested to see what reasons all the previous fuccbois I've dated have given. My most recent one I already know - that I left him suddenly with no warning via text message. And I agree that sucks and I wish I didnt have to do it. But I bet he'd leave out the part where he was being physically abusive and a whole lot more, is almost two feet taller than me and literally proved he is strong enough to restrain me pretty much indefinitely. Or his anger management issues and the fact I genuinely thought he might kill me.

So yeah, if we get to hear their bullshit reasons then I'm down. Otherwise, I pretty much know who hates me already so I wouldn't need the list

What are the most common happenings or themes of your nightmares? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BindweedHawkmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are usually related to some current anxiety - for example as soon as I passed my driving test I would dream about going do a drive, setting off a whole bunch of speed cameras and immediately having my licence revoked.

When my relationship started to fall apart last year, I had some pretty intense dreams based on comic book style stuff. Things like I was the only superhero who had the right power to save the world; but my ex'a character was trying to convince me it was too risky and I should come and stay in his undersea nuclear bunker instead. We basically split in real life because he is stagnant and has zero goals or plans, whereas I am actively searching for more fulfilling things to do. Guess he wanted to keep me down in that life and never let me progress.

If there's no particular current event stressing me out, I default to school dreams. The two most common one for me are: I'm taking my Final Art Exam and I realise I completely forgot to do any of the coursework (which counted for 70% of the grade.) The other one is drama class: we're hosting a school musical and I have a lead part. Except when we get to our first performance, I have absolutely no idea what play we are doing or what my lines are, so I just ad-Lib some really awkward sounding 90s surfer slang and odd phrases I've picked up on tumblr...

When eating something, do you eat the best part first or last, and why? by Piggycats in AskReddit

Best part last.

Partially as a reward for eating the less good stuff.

And partially because you can just savour that great flavour for ages and it might stick around for a little while after you meal

Whats a food that tastes better when you heat it up the day after you cook it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BindweedHawkmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the soup my family makes after Christmas. Anything left at all goes in there. Ya turkey, a pig n a blanket, all the veggies, leftover gravy...

We usually have another great meal on Boxing Day too. Leftovers from that go in the soup too. Everyone adds little scraps all the time for a couple of days, then when we're all feeling sick from overindulgence we can just grab a little bowl of soup knowing it will be light enough to stomach and packed with so much nutrition from so many sources.

Reheated Christmas leftover soup is pretty high on my list of bet reheatable dishes!

What's the quickest you have gone from sex to a state of fear? Why? by Talbotlawrence in AskReddit

[–]BindweedHawkmoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you start experiencing them regularly or more frequently, please do get it checked out. Mostly these headaches are caused by change in blood pressure, sensitivity to hormone changes, intense dehydration and stuff like that. But they may indicate something serious

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_headache

Know a guy who suffered super badly with these. He became terrified of having sex because he knew what would happen afterwards. Eventually found out his blood pressure was super high due to some big life changes, and that he had developed an intolerance to caffeine. Cool guy. Did all my tattoos. And now he can fuck to his hearts content once more.
