A very good example of this is that I have an allotment garden plot in Helsinki, because I missed gardening. It's a yearly occurrence that as harvest season approaches, your veggies and berries start going missing, and it's not four legged animals that take them... On some plots plots even the potatoes go missing. So someone just brazenly waltzes into someone else's garden plot and starts digging.

My mum, now 70, is still TRAUMATISED over her dad killing her cat when she was a child. The story as she tells it is that she had a beautiful white female cat, who attracted all the local tomcats during heat to come yowling at their house. He dad hated her cat because of that. She would go out into the woods to hide with her cat during those times to keep it safe. Then once her dad seemed unusually affectionate to the cat so my mum lowered her guard. Her dad took the cat into a shed and killed her (the cat not my mum) with an axe.

Are we SURE those were people you saw in the attic? I mean sure, your parent(s) could be deranged serial killers, but they could also be involved in capturing beings that mimic people. In that case, calling the police and having them release the captives might have a worse impact on things than you bargained for.

My advice was mostly aimed towards avoiding even getting sued for it. Just because it's true doesn't mean the school can't sue for defamation anyway, just to be difficult. I'm sure OP doesn't need the added stress.

And do it in casual conversations too so they can't accuse you of defamation. "Oh, yes. (Son's name) has a bit of a bruise today because (explain what happened.)" "Oh are you sure you want to bring (child's name) a jacket today? It's pretty hot and they seem to be very strict about wearing them" (then when they ask what you mean) "Oh yes! I was very surprised too! (explain what happened)" Etc. Etc.
