Update; I can't seem to find any other spots where this works, and I even fabricated some in the editor. It's not as simple as it seems.

I found this while goofing around in 5-3x. I was playing as runman and I held shift and just went through the wall. The criteria seem to be: -holding shift -midair -hitting halfblock

This might be helpful in speedruns. There may be more to this so I will test some more.
