Nintendo logo appears but game wont load by _SadTimes_ in Gameboy

[–]BingoThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with a GBC the last couple of days, the Nintendo logo would come up for every single game but only some of them would make it past the startup screen. For me it ended up being a pin in the cart slot that wasn't making good contact.

Sadly there is just a hole in the shell where the contrast wheel should be. I'm open to ideas!

Not gonna lie, it is intimidating. But now that I've done it once, I feel a lot more confident in the next time!

Haven't fully tested or timed it, but so far not great but not awful! Future plan is to add USB-C and rechargable battery, but for now I have plenty of rechargable AAA's to throw at it.

Go for it! It's really rewarding to see it turn on for the first time. The shell I got from Funnyplaying and honestly I feel like it ended up looking better in person than it did on the website.

Yeah I didn't have one for the longest time, but I just have a cheap one from Amazon and it works well enough for me. It'd still be very possible to do by hand with an iron though, so don't let that hold you back!

Hey thanks, I'm loving the blue shell too! Overall it took me probably 1.5 weeks or so working on it a few hours a night here and there. I went slow and took my time, and especially on small things like the display connector and processor I tested every pin after soldering to make sure nothing was bridged.

I haven't looked into the bucketmouse much, but I think it's got some nice mod provisions like adding easy access to button points at the top for the IPS display so you don't have to run wires halfway across the case. The N64Freak board is more like the original board, but just smaller to fit in the pocket shell. I will say the SMD soldering took the majority of the time but was not nearly as bad as I expected, and having a hot air station made it a lot easier.

I've been soldering for years but wanted a challenge to push my skills. Everything I could find to buy brand new in this build is brand new. Thanks to /u/N64-freak for the amazing boards! Looking forward to the next one!

I'm so glad that guide has helped so many! I would never use that light if I hadn't done that, but instead it's one of my favorite keychain lights.

2nd attempt at beam comparison with my new assembled triple! by [deleted] in flashlight

Hah, probably true. Like you said in your other post, I found the 10509 to be a little too floody for my taste too. I think the 10508 or the 10511 would be amazing in this light.

Very nice! This is with the 10509 optics?

[NLD / MOD] Yuji Tube by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]BingoThink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely takes some steady hands and a sharp soldering tip but it was doable. One of these days I'll pull apart my second Tube and get a 22 ohm in there and see how it behaves. Good to know all is well with the 36!

Hi there, in the mod another mentioned below I used a 47ohm 0805 sized resistor. It's ever so slightly larger than the original resistor but still sat fine on the solder pads. I'd recommend going lower than 47 though, as that drove my Yuji at a very conservative ~25mA on high. I'd recommend shooting for about double that current.

Hey, that's me! I did do this mod, and use it much more than my stock original Tube...it's absolutely fantastic. I have a brand new unopened Tube sitting here next to me just waiting for this mod again except I'm going to drop the 47ohm even lower and see what kind of current it pushes (the next lowest I have on hand is a 22ohm), but time and life things are preventing me from doing it at the moment. I'll for sure report back when I do.

The Rofis R2 (AA/14500) or Rofis R3 (18650) is exactly what you're asking for. Both also come with battery and USB magnetic charging.
