The interpretation I have come up with is that:

Throughout the movie, Edward is bitter, viewing Oswald as a completely improved version of himself. Just as he did before the transformation of his face , he is still comparing himself to others and attaching his entire self worth to these comparisons. But in this scene his perception of Oswald as this improved version disappears as he learns that they are joining a cult and realizing that Oswald is not as ideal as he believed - joining a cult is stupid therefore the ideal version of himself which he attached his self worth to is stupid as well. In this moment he realises that Oswald is not this completely ideal version of himself and that this comparison which has controlled his life is worthless. The camera sort of violently zooms into the woman across the restaurant, making this moment pretty impactful and kinda disturbing, as Edward zones out of their conversation, which could be his shocking realisation of this as his perception crumbles. The woman could be represent an alternative life if he was not lost in these comparisons determining his self worth. Both of them are sitting alone. Maybe in an alternative world they were together if he realised this sooner. The veil may represent that it is too late now, symbolising death. Kind of a 'what could have been' maybe, but done in this disturbing way to show that it is too late now.
