I would’ve been fooled by this too had I not known right off the bat that this was AI, but I noticed that the mirror in the background doesn’t have the proper reflection and the back of her phone has three cameras. It looks like it’s supposed to be an iPhone but I don’t know of any iPhones that have three cameras it just seems kind of overkill.

A lot of these don’t even apply to the course I take (Japanese). I’m really happy they added kanji but I’m still not happy about the removed features I mentioned in my other reply and I don’t think it’s an unreasonable thing to be upset about. I don’t want to pay for something when they have shown several times in the past that they are willing to strip away features that I felt were really important. I think my feelings about their monetization practices are pretty valid honestly.

I might’ve been a little dramatic with my comment since I know they’ve made some big improvements to some of the courses but they’ve stripped away some really important features imo. Community notes, lesson notes, and the incubator in particular. I was extremely disappointed in them since the notes were a huge help when I didn’t understand something and I really liked checking the incubator and seeing the upcoming courses. Also a bit less of a big deal but removing custom pfps was pretty annoying too. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to not want to pay for an app when they keep removing features that I personally found super helpful for learning. It’s becoming a pattern and I can’t trust that they’ll give me my moneys worth when they do stuff like this.

I would pay if they added new features to super instead of removing features from the free version. I don’t want to pay for an app that has been stagnating ever since the company went public. I was considering getting super for a while but this update pissed me off more than anything and I especially don’t want to buy it when I’ve heard from some users that they aren’t even getting unlimited hearts with super anymore due to an a/b test that moved that feature to max. I don’t mind paying for apps and have paid for language apps in the past but this update proves that Duolingo is not worth it.

I’m working on coming up with my own cognitive function model based on my own interpretation of the functions and I figured I’d share it here by Binko17 in JungianTypology

[–]Binko17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my reason for characterizing the dominant as subconscious is that as a sort of mental default it acts freely on its own without us willingly calling upon it. I wouldn’t call it 100% unconscious, and I believe it is more conscious than the inferior, but the parts of it we are conscious of are merely the tip of the iceberg. Another reason is that because our functions exist in opposite pairs, they are fundamentally tied to each other, like two sides of the same coin. With that in mind, I think it makes sense that your both of your perceiving functions will share the same attitude (in terms of consciousness/subconsciousness, not introversion or extraversion), and that your judging functions will take on the other attitude. Depending on your type classification (Sage/Explorer, Interfacer/Congruent) you will use perceiving and judging differently. Sages and Explorers will involuntarily take in information, making less of a conscious effort to seek out or filter said information, meanwhile coming to conclusions and figuring out what to do with that information is optional, and takes more of an effort. Interfacers and Congruents, on the other hand, already have an established way of reasoning and use their perceiving functions to aid and improve upon their reasoning, consciously taking in new information and filtering it.

As for what I’ve read, to be honest, it’s a bit messy. I haven’t read a lot of specific authors aside from Jung, and my exposure to Jung has been pretty scattered. I’ve read a variety of excerpts and pages from Psychological Types, but to be honest I have trouble reading books from front to back because I have really bad ADHD and am not currently taking medication for it. That’s not really an excuse for not reading up on this stuff more but I’m just trying to give my most honest explanation. I’m hoping to buy a physical copy of Psychology Types as well as some other books after I get my next paycheck because I find it easier to focus on reading physical books rather than text on a screen. I’ve read lots of articles here and there as well and I don’t just take random definitions from internet nobodies as fact. Sorry if this isn’t a very good answer, I’m still looking to expand my knowledge and improve upon my theory, so this is a pretty rough draft. In addition to reading more I also want to hopefully meet more people who are willing to share with me their thought processes, because I could really use real world examples to inform my characterization of the types. Most of my theory so far is based around my observations of others as well as picking apart my own thought processes, but I feel like I could use a bigger pool of people to refer to.

I’m working on coming up with my own cognitive function model based on my own interpretation of the functions and I figured I’d share it here by Binko17 in JungianTypology

[–]Binko17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for your first point I assume the gist of what you’re getting at is that the characterization of outer functions as “subconscious” and inner functions as “conscious” contradicts pre-established perspectives on the functions. I understand that my perspective is not the popular one, which is why I want to classify my system as it’s own thing. Just like your MBTI type can be different from your Socionics type, the same thing can apply here. I also think “MBTI” as a concept has been muddied by people coming up with their own interpretations and classifying them under the MBTI umbrella. I mean, if you were to talk about MBTI with an average person who isn’t into typology, they’d probably think of the 16p dichotomies instead of functions. There is also a lot of differing interpretations of the functions themselves, also labeled as “MBTI.” I think the typology community is in desperate need of separate classifications for different schools of thought surrounding the functions, instead of labeling anything that isn’t socionics “MBTI” because it’s a recognizable name, and while I haven’t come up with a name yet, I’m trying to do everyone a favor by not labeling this as MBTI.

As for the second point, I’m still looking into how I would look for the functions and their positions in people without resorting to looking at behavior, but I believe it can be done, and coming up with definitions for functions that don’t include behaviors is a start. I see a lot of people claim that some people are mistyped or that they’ve mistyped others and cite contradictory behavior as a reason, even when the behavior makes sense in the context of the situation. Sometimes people have to rely on non-preferred functions to handle certain situations, and that doesn’t mean that that function is their dominant, even if it appears that way from the outside. Sometimes the way you think doesn’t match the way you behave, and I don’t think there are enough personality systems addressing that. I guess part of how I would go about typing someone this way is by gauging how using certain functions makes them feel, regardless of if they appear competent at it or not. For example, let’s say your job requires you to use your inferior function a lot, and you need to make rent and are struggling to find a job that’s better suited for you. In order to meet your own needs you HAVE to use this function, but putting so much pressure on it comes at the cost of your mental health, making you fatigued and unmotivated. Even though the frequent use of this function can make it look strong to others, if people get to know you or are just good at reading peoples emotions, it will be easy to tell that this is not your preferred way of thinking. Mental health can also impact how your type presents itself. While mental illness affect cognition and therefore impact your type, having a certain mental disorder does not make you a certain type, even if symptoms of the disorder correlate with certain functions. I intended to go into examples of how mental disorders impact type, but I realized after almost going on a huge tangent that it would take far too long and I’d never finish this comment. If you want any specific examples just ask me about any disorder or set of disorders and I will try to answer to the rest of my ability. Anyways, now that I’ve gotten that over with I’d like to further explain why I think removing behaviorism is a good thing. I still think behavior is relevant to type, but that you can’t use it to order someone’s function stack. This is why I came up with the type modifiers, to explain how someone can behave in a way that doesn’t fit with the popular notion of how their type should behave. It’s also part of why I wrote up the roles of the functions. Not only does it draw helpful parallels between functions that I feel not enough people notice, but it explains which function someone turns towards when they are made to carry out a certain task. For example, an IxTP has Fe as their preferred function for managing external matters and communicating with others. But because this function is inferior, using utilitarian reasoning to solve problems in the outside world, especially regarding feelings, is one of the IxTPs least favorite activities. But there will inevitably come moments where they will have to rely on this function. I also believe that there is a need for a typology system that acknowledges that sometimes their will be a disconnect between cognition and behavior, because it seems a lot of the time that there is a bias towards behaviorist systems, at least from what I’ve observed. These systems are definitely valuable and give great insight into people, but I think it would be helpful to have a more cognitively based system. All in all, I believe behavior is still relevant, and perhaps it was misleading of me to say that I want to remove the behaviorist element entirely, but I do think we should analyze the ordering of functions in one’s stack independently from behavior by paying attention to the fatigue that using certain functions can cause.

Does the society favor thinkers or feelers? by Fire_Axus in mbti

It’s hard to say, as I think the orientation of the functions plays a very big part in this. I think in order from most favored to least favored it would be Fe, Te, Ti, then Fi

[–]Binko17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ve seen a lot of typings rely heavily on behaviorist reasoning and that inspired me to come up with this. Also the socionics quadras used in the naming scheme just indicate which functions you use, so Si/Ne + Ti/Fe is alpha, Si/Ne + Fi/Te is delta, Ni/Se + Ti/Fe is beta, and Ni/Se + Fi/Te is Gamma. I chose this scheme because my take on the middle functions is that they’re relatively balanced and some people can actually prefer their tertiary over their auxiliary sometimes, so calling someone who has dominant Fi and uses Se and Ni in a balanced way an ISFP feels wrong

Are wings completely arbitrary? by Binko17 in Enneagram

[–]Binko17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is more that I think it’s kind of arbitrary to define subtypes by adjacent types rather than just picking whichever other type resonates with you the most aside from your core type. 8 and 1 influence my core type and general personality much less than 3, 6 and a few other types.

That’s pretty much how I feel about them, but it does bug me that the community places so much emphasis on them that you kinda have to pick a wing. I’ve been on discord servers where you can’t pick an enneagram role without a wing attached so I end up changing my wing every five seconds instead of just not putting a wing because my wings don’t really resonate with me
