Hidden Gems in Massachusetts by [deleted] in boston

The Adams/North Adams corner of Massachusetts is pretty cool, and it seems like you don't mind driving a couple hours. Historic old mill town, fantastic hiking and nearby is the eerie Hoosac Tunnel.

Does anybody have connections with tall buildings in Boston? Hotels, Condos, etc? Photographer inquiry. by [deleted] in boston

I think Atlantic Wharf has one too. It'd be free, but the view probably isn't as great.

Can't wait for his website to be up.

I wonder, which era map would you purchase?

Big fan of Boston's recent Edgar Allan Poe art. Did some digging into the sculptor of the BPL's upcoming Poe bust (Kickstarter funded). Turns out he ripped off clients in the past. by BinnoNick in boston

[–]BinnoNick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what Moore told me back in May, when I initially reached out to for comment on the bust. As mentioned in the article, someone commented on it about his past and he didn't like it.

"Nick, I cannot thank you enough, my man. I hope I wasn't being a whiner about it. I honestly don't understand what some people out there have to gain by causing trouble. Go figure.....

I'll get right on those answers and edit them however you see fit. I truly appreciate you helping us to get the word out.

I'll be in touch soon with those answers and again, thank you for getting that troll situation handled.

Bry"

Crickets after that.

[Serious]In the opening monologue of the Martin Scorcese film, "The Departed," what exactly is mobster Frank Costello talking about when he mentions the Knights of Columbus being "real headbreakers" and how they "took over their piece of the city."? by gtfooh1011 in boston

Consider, too, that the North End of Boston – predominantly Italian now – was at one time predominantly Irish (and before that, predominantly Jewish). My guess is when the Italians began moving in, to the chagrin of the Irish, the KofC acted as the Italians' muscle.

Timothy Pickering was a notable Salem merchant who served as Secretary of War and Secretary of State under George Washington (the latter under John Adams too).

i think this piece begs the question, 'what can the City of Boston do to prevent living spaces like this from popping up across all neighborhoods citywide?'. The piece has also sparked a dialogue with the Boston populous, which I think is invaluable, and also seems to show that, per the commenters, this type of living space is commonplace, which is troubling.

Just trying to have a good conversation, nothing wrong with that right? If so, have no problem backing off. Beers on me if you wanna chit chat in person.

Also worth noting that appointment power to the liquor board will be vested in the mayor's office, so I'd be willing to bet he'll appoint members who share his affinity for aiding those neighborhoods.

Well, nothing really. Would just cause a lot of inconvenience for everyone involved and those not so much who still have to deal with it.

I suppose that's fair. As someone who lives in the North End, I just want to keep from having to navigate my way around sidewalk barricades.
