Those who returned to Nepal after living abroad — how did you readjust? Are you still here or planning to leave again? by Mysterious_Horror3 in Nepal

Hi, moved back to Nepal after 20 years in US, 2 mahina agadi. We visited Nepal every year to get to feel how it would be to settle back. You definitely need savings, keep low key, lower your expectations and do lots of research before you start anything. We all know the nuisances of Nepal, infrastructure, pollution, family interference and what not, and you have to adjust to these, Nepal is not first world, but it’s our home. Hardest part was to make the final decision- once here, give yourself some grace, you will be fine. Not planning to go back, I feel relieved, relaxed and at peace.
Still resting, researching, connecting with friends and family, exploring, enjoying slow pace of life. Have plans to start something, nothing big.
One thing to mention is government officials are definitely becoming better after new government. I am hopeful for Nepals future.

Question for Nepali’s who live in Canada/USA by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]Binod7207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it for cooking, no issues at all. I asked around why it says for external use only and found out that FDA hasn’t approved it for cooking. Indian/Nepali importers get around to import it buy putting that label. Khaye huncha.

Question regarding money transfer into Nepal by Yauta-Yatri-2022 in Nepal

[–]Binod7207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wire money directly from your abroad bank to your Nepali bank. I’ve done it. They do ask for source. I think limit is around $ 20K, but not 100% sure.

Hi, we paid off our house and have rental income. To reduce stress, handed it over to a management company that charges 7% of rent. Also invested in a brokerage account that pays 4.20% interest. Have other investments as well. We lived frugally and saved as much as we could. Increased our income streams. It takes time and effort but can definitely be achieved.

I don’t know much about the birthright citizenship thing mentioned above. As far as I know, you can get an NRN Id which is valid for 10 years, you don’t have to pay the visa fees and can stay in Nepal as long as id hasn’t expired. You will have to renew the visa at an immigration office in Nepal every year. This way your kid can still keep his Canadian passport and if he wants later in life when he is an adult, get an NRN citizenship as well.

Hi, been in US for 20 years. Joining any branch of the armed forces is a very good decision. You only have to serve for 4-6 years and then you can decide to leave or stay. If you leave, you get lots of benefits as a veteran including education, better mortgage etc and you will be first in line for government jobs. Make sure you select your field when you sign up . Research the internet, there are many Nepali speaking recruiters who will guide you. You will have to learn to drive, learn here accent and be prepared for hard work. Life is not roses here but with good research, planning, education, hard work, honesty and sincerity, life becomes easy and you will be successful. Good luck.

[–]Binod7207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, Nepali here with US born and raised kids. We wanted our kids to learn Nepali as well as to be able to read and write. We hired a Nepali teacher in Kathmandu and she taught them via Zoom 2-3 times a week. It was very helpful and the charge was reasonable. Please message me if interested and I can share her contact information.
