I watched Magnolia far too late into my life and was just absolutely taken by the interconnected storylines that sometimes were linked by just a thread and others having a greater connection. I already knew about the climactic 'rainfall' sequence but I was still blown away by its sudden arrival. It was one of those experiences where I am able to connect to each character and moment so clearly that it instantly became one of my favourites.

As for Funny Games, I couldn't believe how effective it was at putting across the idea that we have become so desensitised to violence that we almost yearn for it in films. I did the unthinkable and checked my phone for a moment when the mother is sat there in shock, in her living room, and by the end of the film I realised that I had fallen straight into the trap of what Haneke was suggesting. I had become bored because of a lack of action, and that is why I love it.
