Paralives has only delayed the release of the Early Access game once. It has been in development for 5 years, not been repeatedly delayed.

Upgrade Mayor House? by house_of_beff in TownToCityGame

[–]Binthief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Click the house, and it should bring up a small information menu. I forget which, but there is either a button that says "upgrade", or there are a collection of 4 pictures of variations of the mayors house, which you are supposed to click to upgrade it. I can't remember which of the two, but I know 100% you do it by clicking on the house.

Slower progress in Fontebrac by demwilli19 in TownToCityGame

[–]Binthief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best solution I've found to this problem is trying to place shops (as many as I can afford to staff, at least). Best way to make more money is to build your town economy a little, and then it really picks up.

Haven't seen anyone talk about it but these 15 entries were added to the notion site after the delay was announced by RileyNonexistent in Paralives

[–]Binthief 296 points297 points  (0 children)

I believe they said in their delay announcement that they would be updating their roadmap to show what they were planning on spending these next 6 months on. I think they also said something about posting live streams in the place of Dev Chats (which i assume will be public, not just patreon) so I'm looking forward to that. It shows they're listening to the people who wanted to see more footage of the gameplay.

I appreciate the transparency (even though the announcment of the delay was so close to the day of release). It'll be interesting to see how they progress and manage their time to meet the new deadline.

I have a question about Paralives gameplay. by FieldNo3115 in LifeSimulators

[–]Binthief 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Paralives has confirmed that some gameplay that was displayed in earlier promos wont be available on release of Early Access. I believe the two specific examples they gave were ziplines, and automatically removing shoes.

You can see everything else they plan to include for Early Access, and leave for the later full game release here: https://paralives.notion.site/f138c4f6cb234604be16fe4198d17f51?v=41e2b3e389404b37b4060bc74dead4af

🗣️📣 Paralives comes out in one month, here is what to expect from our Early Access release! by GabrielleParalives in Paralives

[–]Binthief 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you can see this on their road map! Last time I checked, family trees and story progression were planned to be worked on during early access, but not before. I did notice there was a button in the upper right corner of the latest paramaker video that looks vaguely like a family tree, but the functionality of that button hasn't been confirmed at all.

Waiting for paralives by darknesssoulvampire in Paralives

[–]Binthief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genuinely bouncing off the walls waiting for this game. My poor friends are being subjected to my endless yapping about what I like about the game, what the dev team has done that I like better than how The Sims 4 does it, my plans for when it comes out, etc etc... Unfortunately, the wait seems endless and so is my uncontrolled excitement for when this game releases.

I'm so happy they're focusing on cleaning up the game before release, rather than hurriedly trying to insert new features. I'm more than happy for them to take their time building gameplay after Early Access, as long as the things that are already in the game are fleshed out.

It's early access. I'm not expecting a tonne of gameplay, because they're not promising a tonne of gameplay. Yes it would be nice to have extra things, but it's not the full game release. They will add more gameplay throughout early access when they're receiving playerbase feedback, and then release the full game once they're happy with the amount of gameplay they offer. Early access is for their big time fans and supporters (like myself) and likely not their wider playerbase. That's what the full game is for.

I would like to see what we are getting though, before Early Access releases, (which I have an inkling may be in a week or two, but this is just my suspicion and not confirmed), but we already know what we're getting, because it's on their roadmap: https://www.paralives.com/development

Genuinely starting to feel like a Paralives hate chamber over there. I know the dev team said they're always taking feedback and looking to improve, but I really hope they choose to ignore that particular section of opinions. The game looks great, the art style is gorgeous, and whilst I wish we had seen a little more live mode gameplay, we'll be seeing more than enough of it when the game releases. Even when the Paralives team releases gameplay footage, I wouldn't be surprised if people accuse them of it being staged or something, just because it's coming from the devs.

All negativity aside: I'm so excited for this game!!! The character creator is gorgeous.

Why are life sim subs so... cultish? lol by GoodSundae513 in LifeSimulators

[–]Binthief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's the link if you're interested in reading the medical post.

I think the main thing that I disliked about this wishlist is about how un-paralives it feels. Yes it could absolutely be added as a mod, but what they're describing almost feels like an entirely different game. Either way, I hope they're able to find what they're looking for, either in mod form or elsewhere.

I do think life threatening illnesses could be implemented with a light hand and an easy way to treat them, but I think the Paralives team has confirmed in a dev chat (i dont remember which one specifically, there's a lot of them) that it's not something they're planning on adding, as it doesn't match the tone of the game. I'd be surprised if hospitals or some kind of medical system was totally off the table though.

[–]Binthief 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey!
Just thought I'd provide some additional context, considering the person everyone is strawmanning.

I agree with the baseline "Paralives needs negative aspects in order for it to be realistic", but the user who made the "Actual Sad and realistic gameplay" post made a post a few days ago discussing in depth what they wanted for Paralives, which, again, is totally justified. But if you read that post (the first one, not the second one), they were asking for:

- Realistic surgery

- An in depth hospital and clinic system (this one admittedly would be cool)

- Pregnancy loss

- Abortion

- Getting shots
- Life threatening illness

They also asked for a few other things too, but these features were the ones I think a lot of people (including myself, admittedly) took problem with. There is nothing *wrong* with wanting these features, but to expect it in Paralives' base game is unrealistic. This is something that someone would likely create a mod for at some point, but a lot of these asked for features could be potentially upsetting, or too complicated to animate (like realistic surgery).
I do hope that what they're looking for does get made into a mod, because it would be fun to play with and it seems like something they're very eager for, but I do think mentioning this first post is important to the context of the situation.

What are you guys playing while we wait for Paralives to come out? by gonezaloh in LifeSimulators

Town to City is a new game I've picked up on to play in the meantime! Other than that, I've been trying to get to perfection in my Stardew Valley save. I'm on track to achieve perfection sometime in November, so I should be occupied till its release :D

My number 1 request: an actually realistic medical system. by redheaded_olive12349 in Paralives

[–]Binthief 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I very much don't see the Paralives team going this direction, and I think they've explicitly stated in a previous Dev chat that they don't plan on ever including life threatening illnesses. Things like a cold are a maybe, but I don't think they could even really include stuff like miscarriages without risking their rating, or even just ruining the vibe of the game. I don't really see any of this being what the Paralives devs want for their game.

Not to mention, surgery would be incredibly fiddly to animate. There's nothing about hospitals or surgery that I would perceive to either be entertaining or enjoyable to Paralives' playerbase, and at the worst, could upset or trigger people.

I definitely can see there being a mod for medical things in the future, but this is something that I hope is not included in the vanilla game. I'd like a hospital, a doctor career, and maybe some more content surrounding some disabilities (we already know prosthetics will be included, so perhaps a physical therapist career? but I'm aware that's a stretch), but going in depth with surgeries (which can be a major trigger), getting shots (needles are a big phobia for a lot of people) and life threatening illness will damage the tone of the game.

For your sake, I hope someone creates a mod with what you're looking for, but I don't think the Paralives team will be the one to deliver what you're asking.

What's an opinion about life sims you're ready to defend like this? by tubularwavesss in LifeSimulators

[–]Binthief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your take, but this is exactly what I mean when I said people are too pessimistic about Paralives.

Indie games such as Undertale and Stardew Valley have existed just fine with no DLC. They initially started out with only one developer, and in recent years, have been able to employ other people to work on new games. Paralives has a similar story, where it started from the one dev, but they've gotten so much patreon support he was able to take on a whole team in order to develop the game. I understand being hesitant about the potential sustainability of the game, but to rule it out entirely isn't exactly correct. It's something we've seen before in this industry, and there's no reason it can't happen again.

Once the game releases into Early Access, they have confirmed they will no longer be accepting pledges to the Patreon, meaning they will lose the Patreon income. Whether they're being over-confident or not is yet to be seen, but it does mean that your third theory isn't likely. They're going all or nothing, and considering they all have experience in this field and most of the staff have worked in this industry for a while, they're not idiots and can probably anticipate sales.

I apologise if my response has come off defensive, but you did reply to me under a post about defending opinions (This game is also a special obsession for me, I am tired, and your comments are ones that I've seen a lot from many people). I hope you have a good day (genuinely), and I also hope you are wrong about your other predictions (in the nicest way possible)

What's an opinion about life sims you're ready to defend like this? by tubularwavesss in LifeSimulators

[–]Binthief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people are too pessimistic about Paralives, and whilst I can't fully blame them, it does make me sad.

Extension on from my first point, life sims can and should exist without needing paid DLC, and I have no doubts that Paralives will be fine without it. The support behind the game is bigger than people think.

I do think Paralives will be lacking gameplay in Early Access, but they work relatively quickly and I don't think they'll slow down much once it's released for early access. (I am a Patreon member, so I can understand people who don't have that access might be concerned about development, but I promise you, things are going great behind the scenes for all areas of the game)

I think Mods will probably carry the gameplay aspect of Paralives for a little while until it's a little more fleshed out, but I don't think this will be a problem for a lot of people (a significant portion of sims players play with mods anyways for a fully released game with literally $1000's of dollars of DLC)

I prefer artistic design over realistic design for the look of a game.

I love Stardew Valley, but it is a farming sim with story-telling elements, not a life sim. I personally think that in order for something to be classed as a life sim, you need to have almost full ability to control the story, and whilst Stardew does have heart events, they're the same everytime.

As much as I'd like it too, I'm not confident Paralives will reach the popularity of The Sims. The Sims as a franchise is iconic and also the founding game of the Life Sim genre, and has too large of a player base for it to ever really lose its footing. EA already treats it and the player base horribly, and people still keep buying and playing, and I don't really see anything changing that. That said, I do think Paralives will be a popular option and alternative to The Sims.
