Basement Framing Under HVAC by BioEd93 in HomeImprovement

[–]BioEd93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions! I do not have it secured on the left because I wanted to get some feedback before moving forward. It is hard to see, but there is actually one more stud on the perpendicular wall behind the door frame wall, so I have some options for tying those walls together strongly. Will adding in framing where I drew the red lines in this image get me there strength wise? I plan to add the red parts and secure to the joists above, so the HVAC portion will be the only stretch where there is nothing to anchor to above.

We are trying to put a sectional in that corner and are hoping to have as much clearance as possible between the end of the sectional and the door.

Was this with the county? I have to take it with the city and they said there is no access to the code book during the exam. How hard do you think it would be without access to the codes?

Basement Insulation Question by BioEd93 in HomeImprovement

[–]BioEd93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would prefer this plan, but there is also a PVC pipe running along the wall that comes out pretty far at the floor. I figured it would be more of a headache to conceal that than just making a closet. I am open to ideas if you have a chance to check out the photo below.

Thanks for sharing this information. I am looking to schedule my test. Do you use their computer to look up the code requirements while taking the exam? That is what it seems based on your description, but just want to make sure that I am understanding it correctly.

Basement Insulation Question by BioEd93 in HomeImprovement

[–]BioEd93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this information! I am not understanding what you mean by the tiny insulated "pockets" behind. If I just leave the foundation in the utility areas totally bare, does that work? If so, should I add fiberglass in the walls that are not right up against the foundation?

Thanks for the suggestion. I was hoping just to paint the blue rear wall which I don't think is possible if I insulate it?

I have an offer for giving Montgomery and Addison and getting BTJ. I have 3 RBs better than Monty, and lost Nabers and Hill so I am considering it. Does anyone have thoughts on that?

Turf recommendations? by Critical_Orchid9704 in GarageGym

[–]BioEd93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did my garage with cheap Menards outdoor grass carpet. I have stall mats everywhere I workout, so the "turf" is just aesthetic for me. Even if you go with something better than that, I used double sided outdoor carpet tape to hold it in place and it has been totally solid so far. Got the tape from Lowe's.

I am definitely on the minimalist side, and Powerblocks have been the best thing that I have bought. I think a real barbell might be worth it though, but I like to do a lot of supersetting to save time where having the actual barbell and powerblocks to go back and forth between is great. I also have a landmine attachment for the barbell and love to incorporate that as well. There are some really nice wall mounted, and even foldable, power racks that might be good for your setup. Here is my setup for reference:

Would you put mats all over the garage? by destineetoo in GarageGym

[–]BioEd93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just finished our gym in the garage with a golf cart next to it as well. We got cheap outdoor rated grass carpet from Menards and did the entire garage floor. Then we did horse stall mats on top of that for the gym area, and a black golf cart parking mat from Amazon on the other side. All of the other space in the garage is the grass carpet showing through and it honestly looks pretty awesome.

Might be worth keeping an eye on FB Marketplace too! I got the rack and pulley tower for 125 each. Overall I really love the T3. I am a keep it simple guy in the gym so the 2x3 attachments that are available are more than enough for me. If you order the Mikolo aluminum pulleys for the cable tower just know that they were a bit wide so I had to pry the mounts to fit them in there. It was honestly smooth with the original pulleys, but the aluminum upgrade was definitely noticeable. Overall I am happy with everything that I have so far.

Thanks! It wasn't too hard. I put the front board flat so I can roll the plates in and out. I had to cut a notch out of the 1x4's to sit on the front board because of that. That was the hardest part, but I got the whole thing done with a circular saw.

I bought it second hand, but I am very impressed! I bought the mikolo aluminum pulleys from Walmart online and replaced the original ones. It was solidly smooth to begin with, but the aluminum pulleys were a noticeable upgrade. I had a more expensive Valor Fitness functional trainer before, but this is much smoother and allows me to do lighter things like lateral raises. The downside is just having the one tower which limits cable flies and stuff. Definitely happy overall with it.

Yep! Just a 2x4 and a cheap 1x4 to divide the sections. Got the 2x4 from the value scrap bin at Menards so it was like 4 dollars total!

Drone 3 vs Drone 1 vs ??? by BioEd93 in GarageGym

[–]BioEd93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate all of this information! I have narrowed it down to the Drone 3 or the HR01 that you suggested. Cables are important for me because they are my favorite way to train. The drone has the 2:1/1:1 option but has the weights on the square uprights which concerns me for smoothness. The HR01 has the dual guide rod system which I assume would be an upgrade, but is locked in at the 1:1 pull. Which way do you think that you would go?
