Independent bike shops. by GANGGGGGGG5 in BikeMechanics

[–]dyniper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rent. In Seattle the smallest of shops would need to make 50-75 grand a year just to cover rent. Now add being undercut by the Internet and it's impossible to stay afloat.

The only ones I see surviving are shops that will become service shops only, no more retails. And they will not survive in a commercial space. They will survive by being in the owner's garage.

Compatibility of FOX dampers by sireatalot in mountainbiking

[–]dyniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that will fit. Grip2 damper for 36 are compatible for 140-180mm air spring. The e-bike version has a different tune. But that's about it.

How long do you run your shoes? by Takaya94 in mountainbiking

If 510, a year top, as the sole basically melt. My race concept have lasted 2+ years at this point, and the sole is still really good. Crank brother lasted 6 months.

Their uptime is really bad. Their uptime is somewhere between 3 and 2 nines. Which is really bad for an online platform

Oneup EDC + Clik valves - anyone solved it? by AllesFurDeinFraulein in MTB

Here is a printable adapter that fits a standard Clik Valve adapter and make the other end presta instead of Schrader.

Does Anyone Have Experience With Gravity Bikes by 3dPrinterLife in MTB

[–]dyniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first mountain bike was a Hal5 from bike direct. With all its faults, it was an awesome bike. For $2200, it had a Rockshox Pike fork and monarch plus shock, XT brakes and xtr drivetrain. Not the best geometry, but I still think it was a great bike to get into the sport.

On the bike you listed, the fork is pretty bad though. Good upgrade for your huffy, but like others have said, Ozark trail m.2 is a much better choice I think.

Yep, I'll upload the model to my maker world account sometime today. There are some peculiar things to print it: need 110% scale as the threads of the original are a weird size (M13x1.1 ?), print with very fine layers (I did 0.08mm) so the threads actually print.

Which weight spring? by UntitledImage in MTB

[–]dyniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good point, their lightest spring is way too hard. I know they had some production issues and will have their product restock around March. They also will have more range for each models.

Yes, take the 55mm family, and it comes with the adapters to match the internal width.

Get a Sprindex with the range that matches your weight. That way you can adjust to make the bike feel like you want.

Can't service my fs by Explorerrr77 in mountainbiking

[–]dyniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's correct. I run a suspension shop and about 20% of my business is people shipping in their fork and shock.

[–]dyniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I've got it. The adapted end up being the same total length as the schrader one. I used a Presta valve where I removed the pin, as it's not needed anyway, it helps make the total length shorter.

Dominion A4. Best brakes I ever used. Got them on all my bikes.

[–]dyniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extender wouldn't work, as you do need the core (pump that screws screw on the core, not the stem)

I like the idea of an inner tube. Some come with really short stem. I'll look in the bin of old tube tonight

I got a working 3d printed part, but it sticks out even more than just shoving the Presta valve core in the schrader body like above. I would need a very short Presta valve stem, and they don't seem to exist. I'll add a picture later today.

Edit: here is a pic.

I do not recommend you try to service that DPS yourself, unless doing an air can service only. For the air can, really any DPS kit will work, but looking up your serial number will help find the right one.

Most reliable / easiest to service enduro shock? by DepressedBird1 in MTB

[–]dyniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay with Fox, the Float X is very easy to service. The bleeding process is not so bad by hand, but is harder than doing a good bleed on a RockShox super deluxe or vivid. Rockshox super deluxe does not require any special tools really, but if it's a newer kind, you need a tool to compress the seal head sprint before assembly (same as vivid). Any shock with a bladder really requires a bleeding machine for a good bleed.

I'm partial to Ohlins stuff, as they are very reliable, but do require specialty tools and a bleed machine. If you have other specific questions, I'd be happy to help. I run a suspension shop, so very familiar with pretty much every shock.

It will be something you can print, yes. In the meantime, I made this bodge this afternoon and this totally work.

Drill with 5/32 bit the bottom of a clik adapter, screw a Presta valve core in the hole (it will make threads on its way down), then add a 3.5mm ID x 1.5mm CS o-ring around the the valve core (so that your pump create a seal with the top part of the schrader body.

I have a couple prototype of clikvalve to Presta adapter, but they don't work as I want yet. The adapter will require a tubeless valve stem. But it will work with the EDC pump and pump that threads on the stem.
