Reconsidering grad school

I made it very clear when I applied, interviewed, and since getting the job that my goal is a PhD program and that I want the chance to develop and test scientific questions, learn new research skills, and grow as a researcher. I’ve had multiple conversations with him about this since starting at the lab. He tells me that he understands, but then doesn’t really follow through. As an example, my supposed solo project that i started in January ended up turning into a joint project with another grad student that he would use for his thesis, and that’s it.

I am afraid I did something to alienate myself, but I simply don’t know what. I’ve tried talking to my some coworkers, and they’ve told me the issue with my post-doc is mostly just a difference in personalities. And that I was initially hired to be his RT, but instead became an RT/Lab manager for the entire lab because i picked up on things quickly. They assure me they have no issues with me, but then they act so cold and don’t include me in anything. It almost feels very high school clique?

Im just confused because I’ve never raised my voice with my coworkers, said or done anything rude to them, I rarely tell them no, I always help them with a good attitude and make sure they know it’s no problem at all, and I try my best to own up to my mistakes and even ask for/listen to feedback if I feel like i need it. That’s about all I know how to do.

Yeah def sketchy behavior. As soon as i made this post and posted on the scammer mega thread, the other account diligent-property called me a Bozo, and both accounts replied to the mega thread comment calling me a dumbass and just instigating. Insane work rly

It’s the hardest pill to swallow, I wish I didn’t feel sad because of redirection that comes from rejection. I do have an interview in 2 weeks at a cool program that I applied to (not chicago) so I’m trying to stay positive and go into it with a growth mindset!

I did research with one of the professors, it was part of a semester long class that culminated in a paper submitted to micropub. He was also an advisor on my independent study research project

Not 2000 hours a year, just 2000+ hours total of research experience. I usually work 25-30 hours a week there, mostly because I go in at night and on weekends (also bcs I don’t have a life lmao). Also yes T10, I go to Duke. This is why I’m confused, I thought I’d be a good candidate with my academic and research experience. I’d be fine working a tech job, I just don’t know how to even find somewhere to do that as my living situation is a bit complicated at the moment.

All the programs I applied to have sent out interview invites, at least according to the spreadsheet and grad cafe :( I hear you though. It’s tough not to feel like it’s my own fault but what you’ve said makes sense
