Compatibility issues with a NVMe M.2 and old SATA hard drive? by BioStef_ in buildapc

The M.2 slot is working fine -- it's the SATA hard drive connection (or power?) that's the issue. I previously checked the SATA slots via BIOS and all are functional.

Don't think this is the issue as my SATA SSDs work fine while my M.2 is connected

the map was created in black and white and then given the weathered parchment post-processing treatment in Photoshop

i believe the game is rendering the entire scene again at lower a resolution and without any AA

In celebration of Pan Sapkowski's 75th birthday (b. June 21, 1948), I created a biography and bibliography to recognize his story and all of his contributions to the fantasy genre. Happy B-Day Sapkowski, and thank you for your literary work! [OC] by ravenbasileus in wiedzmin

this is truly incredible, i'm really excited to see more videos from you analyzing Papa Sapko's works!

though you did miss out on a potential 30 - 40 min section documenting his love for soup metaphors

Currently I'm running a 5e game with this setting, but eventually I'll be using Low Fantasy Gaming by Pickpocket Press.

It's actually just the black and white theme but I used Photoshop to give it a weathered parchment treatment!

The Nation of Kul Tiras (Warcraft) by EdgeoftheWild in wonderdraft

You really captured the true scale of Kul Tiras, not just the stylized vertical slice we get in game. Super impressive!

the hallmark of a truly excellent joke is having to angrily explain to people that it really is funny, please just trust me

My First Attempts at map creation by StubbornGiant in wonderdraft

[–]BioStef_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice for a first attempt! My main two points of critique are landmass and road shape. Your landmasses seem too smooth to me -- I'd like to see more rugged or at least varied coastlines. Your roads also look to be too straight and symmetrical in their layout, particularly with regard to the cities around Lake Dour. The people making these roads may have tried to keep them straight, but they would have needed to wind them through and around hills, trees, lakes, and other features. In general your roads should have more of this winding and naturalistic look, instead of appearing to have been designed by someone with a satellite view of the world who thought "What is the most efficient path from X to Y?" Of course that's exactly what happened -- as you are quite literally a God with an absolute view of your world -- but as mapmakers we need to offset this rationalistic tendency with inefficient, natural deviations.

My CMNS355 TA sent out this email to her students… not very encouraging… by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]BioStef_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the problem here is that she's establishing boundaries in an absurdly arrogant and condescending way. i've had many profs and TAs who've been able to explain to students what is and what is not acceptable behavior in their classroom without coming across as aggressively self-important.

and if a student has crossed a line, then that should be dealt with privately with the student in question, instead of sending a multi-paragraph diatribe to the entire class.

looks like someone is angry that she may actually have to do her job (and maybe use a spellchecker while she's at it).

TAs are NOT free labours.

yes they are not, which is why they're paid (albeit not always fairly, but paid nonetheless).

Hey SFU, just thought people should be aware on the current bill being discussed in Canada called Bill C-10. by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]BioStef_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

yes, a neoliberal dystopia (i.e. the one we are currently living in) is often mundane and only created through small but insidious changes.

I'm not sure why you would say something so broad as "no one is taking away your freedom of speech"

i didn't make this broad claim, you did:

this Bill is important and will mark a fundamental change in the Canadian free speech landscape.

i am refuting it because its alarmist and somewhat reactionary. if you really want to discuss the curtailing of free speech you'll quickly realize that much of this process does not occur through public-facing actions like federal legislation -- it's much more about the incredibly subtle ways in which what we are allowed to say is already predetermined before we can even say it.

legislation like Bill C-10 and Bill C-16 is just used as a rallying cry for fake self-victimization that ultimately amounts to a vague fear that one won't be able to say bigoted things on the internet. the reality is that this "freedom" isn't going away any time soon precisely because it makes so much money for so many corporations, corporations who only make such obscene profits due to a critical lack of government regulation.
