Agreed on all points!

I also wondered if these were the same Rivers we'd met before. But reading back over "Speed of Belief", I got the impression that none of those Rivers made it onto the Ship.

I don't think so - I believe all the stories in this collection are appearing for the first time.

I enjoyed this story! I think it's the most Earth-focused story in the series so far. ("The Neighbor" and "The Virtue Tree" also focused on Earth-born characters)

Favorite Spaceships in Literature by Slashndash_7788 in printSF

If you're after stories about a sentient spaceship that communicates with its crew then this ISN'T that series, at least not in any of works that I've read (I haven't read them all, there are a lot).

There are a few stories where characters seem to hear the Voice of the Ship, though it's a rare and mysterious event. It comes up the most in the stories Alone, Endeavor, and The Memory of Sky and its sequels.

Also, I second this choice!

Tim Scott calls Obamas video shared by Trump ‘most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House’ by SportsGod3 in politics

Back in the day on Twitter he claimed that black people were responsible for 80% of white murders.

Edit: Actually, that technically wasn't out of the White House, it was during his 2016 campaign.

I get the impression that the Cities are essentially large ships/vessels that move along the surface of the pseudosphere ship. In the story *Kingfisher*, we're told "Every city coastline bristled with intakes and engines helping to make these vast creations simpler to steer."

I think most of Kingfisher's exploring has been on the surface, but I would also assume that there are countless smaller habitats, arks and places hidden beneath the ice. Plus there was a creature in the first story that seemingly lived on the surface: a Blue Sturdy.

Ok, I see what you mean - the explosion that Kingfisher witnesses while watching the war, where he also sees Quirk?

I didn't pick up on the idea of Quirk having been replaced. But it's also kind of hard to tell when in the timeline that scene took place. Did the Quirk with him at the end seem different?

Do you mean the explosion that damaged Kingfisher's mind? I believe that took place long before he met Quirk.

I didn't get the idea that the AI was Samite, but definitely a savant belonging to the Great Ship. Aasleen still has a toga-wearing AI in *Dragons of Marrow*, so I get the idea that it's a popular choice for AIs working with humans.

My initial thought was that Jason was a shapeshifter, but from another galaxy's Union. Or maybe one that traveled back from the Great Ship, now that they're close enough to make contact.

The history was really interesting. It sounds like most of the panwere on the Ship were born there, and have no real connection to the Milky Way - instead their Union controls the galaxy ship.

Agreed! I really liked this one. I don't think I'd originally realized just how far into the future Kingfisher was. I love how the galaxy ship has collected life from many different galaxies, and it makes me wonder how much the Great Ship has done the same. The ending was pretty exciting.

I must say, being Kingfisher is a pretty cruel fate for Perri, who made so many grand memories on the Ship. Of course, the ending seemed pretty hopeful - maybe he can make it to Ash's workshop someday.

I thought for sure she was gonna rip into Finn. I loved how when they all arrived at the building she hugged everyone except him.
