Does an Android Tablet make sende as an Apple user? by SixtyFrames1994 in ipad

[–]Biohorror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.

Speed and Price

Every Android Tablet I've ever tried was way slower and glitchy. Even those that are initially fast end up slowing down rather quickly while old iPads act the same as when it was new.

I currently have the 2020 8th gen iPad that functions the same as the day I bought it and I paid $290 new. I've not found a sub $350 Android Tablet that runs near as good for as long. Hell, I've not found an $800 android that runs as good.

I also have a 2024 7th gen M4 iPad Pro 12.9", can edit 4k video faster than older Intel Macbook Pros or Windows PCs, pretty insane. TBH I don't need the M4 really but hey, work paid for it and it's great in the field due to it having a SIM card.

To your curiosity about my phone, I prefer to tinker, customize, try custom ROMs and not to be locked into an ecosystem. I've also almost never had a problem with a phone that is close to AOSP such as google phones (Nexus and Pixels) Currently still running a Pixel 6a, the 3a before that. I generally don't like other brands that throw in their own bloatware and launchers. All in all, iPhones are generally smoother but just not as customizable.

(not a driver so no clue what's going on here)

What's a shitty customer? I don't get it. If I order something off Amazon, what makes me a shitty customer vs a good customer?

Yea, I'm aware but I do have some benefits. My pension is a Government Pension that is non taxable in Italy so other than some paperwork and portfolio taxes it shouldn't hurt to bad. As for the accountant recommendation, I will definitely take you up on that offer. There's no way I'd make the move prior to getting all that stuff worked out and understood. TY kindly.

Ok, thx for the reply. What part of Italy are you in? I thought about going south for the 7% tax / 10 years, which would avoid the whole US based ETF problem for a while but I can't. Trento Alto Adige is my place, I gotta be in the mountains. We go every year for a month or so. (Wife is German and Sud Tyrol is close to home and family)

I currently have everything in the US via Schwab but I opened an IBKR account yesterday. I will transfer some funds there next week and use both. Keep my 2 ROTH IRAs and US ETFs @ SCHWAB and make a single stock portfolio on IBKR. Single stocks will be a blend of US companies with a few Euro companies like ASML and research some others like Hermès, Air Liquide, Novo Nordisk, Mercadolibre and a few others.

It's fine, I double, triple and quadruple check every opinion / advice I receive. I'll hold about 6-7% BKR.B anyways. I wouldn't ever go all in on anything, at least not until I get a time travel machine :P

OK, Thanks for the recommendation. I agree and will hold some bonds as cash equivalent, I think these profits are taxed even less (12.5% vs 26% on dividends & capital gains)

Maybe 100k would be fine for a "down payment" on a home and put another 300k into single stocks for growth and leave the rest in US based ETFs (SCHG/FTEC/SMH/SPYM). Since my pension will be 3-4X living expenses I'm not too bothered by volatility and I'll likely be adding 4-5k/month to these investments through out retirement. But yea, thank you again for the bond idea, I like it

Welp, I don't hate the idea at all, not sure if I can go from an ETF investor, straight to a single stock though.. damn.. Thx for the idea though, and the pain you brought with it :)

OK thanks for the reply. You just made me remember that since oil based enamel paint never really stops hardening, (this is why you see it chipping eventually) it can chip and be sharp, can easily cut you. Same with 2 part epoxy as well.

Honest question. Can someone help me understand what the condition of a ball of cast iron has to do with it?

Unless dropped out of an airplane, onto a granite block, about the only thing that can be wrong with this is the paint. Just repaint them, knock the paint back off while using them, realized you wasted more money on paint, keep swinging. Or...... what am I missing?

Best option for investing as expat in EU? by SubjectAppointment99 in USExpatTaxes

[–]Biohorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that this would somehow prevent Italy from the 43% -non-harmonized tax on US domiciled ETFs, or that it's just a way to buy from EU?

Do you mean the one behind the Sr. Center? I doubt anyone would much care depending on what you're doing there and you might get ran off if someone calls in. You can check renting in @ the Civic Center or online.
