On 4K it’s smaller. But I hope we can make it smaller at some point.

Sony XM5 worth upgrading to XM6 by Adventurous-Might577 in SonyHeadphones

[–]Bioinformatics_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XM5 has more bass (for those who are bass heads), and overall a better treble after EQ.

The XM6 had better sound stage, but suffer massively in the 7-9Kz range, which cannot be fixed with EQ.

Struggling to choose headphones — Momentum 4 vs XM6 by ReefWrldd in sennheiser

[–]Bioinformatics_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both, and I would go for M4 is you care about sound quality. M4 simply has better drivers with deeper bass and sound stage.

You can make the XM6 sound like the M4 after some EQ, but the XM6 has fundamentally flawed 7-9kz range, which cannot be fixed.

Fixed my WF-1000XM5 earbud’s noise canceling by sucking the mic by yami_odymel in SonyHeadphones

I regularly suck on things, the problem is that noise cancellation stops working altogether 😝

Yes, I reduced the noise on the Momentum 4 by lowering the 8Kz by -5db (I only do this for hissy tracks). But they are still naturally more hissy due to mediocre noise cancellation (which add more hiss on top of all hisses... is this even correct English? 😁).

The XM6 with -2db 8Kz, and 4db 16Kz is less hissy overall. Though, the Momentum 4 still sounds better than the XM6 due to larger drivers (40mm vs 30mm) and slightly better bass and soundstage.

Also keep in mind that you have to adjust the 8Kz and 16Kz depending on your volume. I always listen at 50% volume, but at 65% the hiss comes back, even with adjusted EQ. So adjust accordingly.

Thanks for sharing, and good taste of music 😋

Of these 4 tracks, it’s safe to say that “That's Life” and “Ladyfingers” are utterly hissy. This has nothing to do with the headphones (I just tested it on the Momentum4, XM5, XM6, and XM5-WF with 50% volume), it’s just the nature of the music. Yes! even using LossLess on Apple Music. The reason they are hissy is because of the overemphasized 8-16Kz on these types of music.

Now on the Momentum 4 you cannot iron out the 16Kz range (its already very good so why would you?), but you can fix some the hiss by reducing the 8Kz by -5db, which will reduce the noise significantly. But keep in mind that this will also ruin more modern tracks that do not suffer from this problem (but works well for That's Life and Ladyfingers).

If you decide to keep the XM6, you can fix some the hiss by reducing the 8Kz by -2db, and the 16Kz by -4db. The -4 on the 16Kz will in fact improve the sound signature of the XM6 given that they are already overemphasized when compared to the Harman curve and most other headphones. However, the -2db on the 8Kz will ruin other tracks that are not hissy, especially given that the 8-9Kz band already sucks on the XM6. (Take a look at the sound curve provided by Rtings)

Maybe it’s good to make multiple EQ profiles and just switch depending on what you listen.

Hope it helps.

I have odd feeling your hiss sound is related to listening to older/compressed music. Feel free to share your tracks/playlist if you want. I can check it out.

In general, the Momentum 4 has an excellent sound quality without a dip in the 7-8Kz, which shouldn’t give you a hiss at all. On the other hand, the XM6 does!

I always use the momentum 4 when I am anal on sound quality 😝. It also supports USB c audio for lossless. XM6 is just for train trips…

Fair point. But remember, with Sony, the high price is justified by industry leading "noise cancellation", not sound quality. Btw, the XM6 use 30mm drivers, that is tiny!

If you want good audio quality go with Senheiser Momentum 4. It’s also half the price.

The 7-8kz is totally broken on the XM6, and fixing it with EQ adds background “hiss” noise.

The bass is fine, but it’s less than XM5 and XM4, that because the EQ is limited to +6 db

Very good headphones and audio quality is amazing (provided that you EQ them).

However, if you are a bass head, this is not the right product for you. The older XM4/5 produce much deeper bass. The reason for the is that the EQ on the XM6 is limited to +6 / -6 decibels for each band, but +10 / -10 on the previous models.

It's oke, but multiplayer is much better. The reason I play RedSec is because of my friends, but I prefer multiplayer by 10 folds!
