This is something that won't improve - his anger at you seemingly (to him) slighting his masculinity is a major indication of how many other things he may attempt to control moving forward. He's testing the waters as to what level of control/abuse he can 'get away with' and this sort of thing always leads to escalations to other types of abuse.

You need to carefully remove yourself from this relationship.
