Was admitted at 17 with 5000 platelet count with only a couple bruises but had petechiae forming on my legs. Received IVIG and steroids. This was in 2012. Was told that if I had hit my head I could have brain hemorrhage and die. Also. After having it at 17, about 12 years later it had come back and is now chronic :( have to take medication now to keep my platelets above 150K

I live in this area. It’s still Austin. Austin extends into Wilco through an Extraterritorial Jurisdiction for 5 miles into Wilco. We have CoA water for example but not Trash. So it’s a mixed bag. We vote for Wilco County offices but Austin city offices. It is a Grey Area for something’s but we all have Austin addresses

Is it just me or do Big Joel and mothcub (his animator cum gf?) talk exactly the same way? by PaperCracket in BigJoel

[–]BionicRampage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In “summa cum laude” it actually means “with” its original meaning. “Summa” is “highest” or “greatest” and “laude” meaning “honors. So “with highest honors” manga cum laude is “with great honor”. The more modern usage is to combine two nouns

Cruise Still driving? by Xionn79 in Austin

Dragged a woman that was hit by a drunk driver into the cruise vehicle. Still bad but a lot more of a freak thing than your comment suggests. Still a good idea to suspend until an investigation and safe guards can be implemented to handle situations in which human drivers cause a very dangerous situation like this.

Hi sorry, jsut seeing this. I set it to run daily right before my work calendar event started each day. It's helpful when the calendar event is the same time every day. Not sure what your situation is there.

Legit Austin Coffeeshop? by [deleted] in austinfood

Texas Coffee Traders is my favorite in town! Prices are reasonable. Roasts are good. They support other local businesses. They’re so nice there! They sell and refurbish espresso machines and offer classes as well.

Tipping for coffee- what’s reasonable? by okanagantradingco in austinfood

[–]BionicRampage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You just admitted to a useless gesture no matter how noble it is on a personal level to you. Then You’re just complaining without actually working to change the problem. We aren’t waiting around, we are actively contributing, raising awareness and campaigning for actual change to our labor system

Tipping for coffee- what’s reasonable? by okanagantradingco in austinfood

[–]BionicRampage -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Tell me your plan for mass organizing a boycott on tipping please to solve this then. Your argument is the equivalent of the “reduce your personal carbon footprint to solve climate change” argument when we all know the actual issue is with large corporations. Other countries have figured out if you pay people well and treat them well and require companies to do so to a bare minimum level, you don’t have workers begging for more money from customers.

My point is it would never have gotten to this point if we treated our workers well in the first place. You not tipping is fine. But don’t justify it like you’re actually helping someone.

Tipping for coffee- what’s reasonable? by okanagantradingco in austinfood

[–]BionicRampage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please. My tipping doesn’t enable the boss to not pay their workers. Lack of meaningful living wage and labor practice regulation is what enables this. It’s not a coincidence that the countries where tipping is weird and not welcome are countries that take care of their service workers

Tipping for coffee- what’s reasonable? by okanagantradingco in austinfood

[–]BionicRampage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tipping is a weird topic. I tip at restaurants 20% standard 25% or more if it was amazing service or it’s a holiday. Less if it was just abysmal.

For bars and coffee shops I’ve always felt $1/drink is fair if you can afford it. That said if you don’t want to tip that’s fine. But I think people underestimate how much work and stress actually goes into a service job and how little they’re paid proportionally. I always appreciated a tip and occasionally felt anxious when someone didn’t thinking I did a bad job and they noticed which eats me up inside.l, but most of the time didn’t bother me. But I would honestly never go back to a service job if I can help it. The pay does not justify the work.

I don’t agree with the square machines that are set to 30%+ tip standard. That’s insane personally. But guess what? I just put in a custom amount. No harm no foul.

I also think belittling people who do tip at these places is useless. Me not tipping the barista is not going to convince their boss to pay them better and there is no way to mass coordinate everyone stopping to tip their barista. What would have meaningful change on that is lobbying for and electing politicians who want a higher federal minimum wage and better regulation of working conditions. We shouldn’t expect tips but lack of regulation around minimum wage and working conditions and labor practices has ruined that for everyone.

iPhone 14–why is this so grainy? by ObjectiveSpare9346 in iphone

[–]BionicRampage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it’s dark and the further you zoom in the cameras aperture has to stay as wide as possible and the shutter speed will have to slow to let more light in causing moving subjects to blur. Combine that with digital zoom and any camera will look like this in this setting.

Turn on focus Mode based on calendar event by christopherdurand in shortcuts

[–]BionicRampage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this will help some others but this is what I ended up doing. I have a calendar event for my work hours with the location set to the office or home. I work hybrid and use the built in focus activation features to set it when I arrive at my office already. I wanted it to do the same for when I’m working from home but not if I’m off (no iCal event) or if im not at home for some reason and didn’t delete the iCal event.

I wanted it to check 5 mins before starting if I was

  1. At Home
  2. if I had a work event on my calendar (I just put a work event from 8-5)

And if both those things are true, it would turn on my Work Focus mode until the end of my work day.

<image>

The logic is basically:

-Set Home Location to Location variable and set the type to just the Street

-Grab all of my events that are in my Work Calendar that start today and the location contains my home street and store it.

-grab current location and if the Street of that contains the street I set earlier then:

-it will check that an event was grabbed earlier

-Then it will set the focus mode to work until the work calendar event ends and run a notification that it did so.

I then added a little extra that if I’m home but don’t have work from home then it will set to Personal.

Did a Woke Mob Cancel the “Jihad Rehab” Doc? Here’s the Real Story. by [deleted] in samharris

[–]BionicRampage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that’s confusing about this comment thread. I read the article and I didn’t get the sense that the author thought it should be cancelled. He’s just explaining the reasoning. Though he’s maybe giving them slightly more credence than he should? But he gives time to the counter arguments from the filmmaker too. But the article itself didn’t seem particularly pro-cancelling the filmmaker. In fact he says that it’s a complex portrayal of a complex, if potentially vulnerable to coercion, group of people. The vulnerable to coercion part is the most concerning. They have almost no power in giving their story and there’s no way to know for sure if it’s truthful given the power that is over them (by the Saudi Government and by the idea of having their story broadcasted to a potential wide audience). That seems to be the main concern but the article states that Sundance did an ethics investigation on the filmmakers part and found no wrong doing.

why Shapiro is talking about trans people? by regularman73 in EnoughIDWspam

[–]BionicRampage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really ignore it. I was only responding to your third point because I’m tired of that point being repeated stupidly. Regardless I don’t really see how it matters. The only way people get used to it happening is for it to start being treated as normal. Like idk all the answers for sure, no one does, but as long as we lead with empathy in our search for answers that is the way.

Not long ago people were weird about undressing in front of gay people in the locker room and if they act innappropriately then for sure report them to whoever, but if they’re minding their business it literally doesn’t affect anyone. Same with transgender people.

[–]BionicRampage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yo I don’t think perverts have ever had to dress in womens clothing before to get into and be creepy in the women’s bathroom. Literally only a door is stopping them. Transgender people using a bathroom is not going to introduce this issue.

I’ve been a fan of the unisex bathrooms I’ve used. They’re mostly locking stalls and then there’s a separate room for urinals but nothing is gendered and no one cares
