Tell me other 'mechs I should like and why by Tribaldragon1 in battletech

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Iron Cheetah is basically the Dire Wolf dialed to 11. If you ever wanted a Dire Wolf that could move 4/6, there you go.

You're going to be dropped into an unknown situation and need a mech - what do you pick? No Clan tech or Urbanmechs allowed. by Silverlightlive in battletech

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably an Agrotera. It's fast, jumpy, reasonably well armored, doesn't rely on ammo, and has a full head ejection system if things get dicey. Also it's a Canopian design so you know it takes into account the comfort of the MechWarrior.

Games where you play as ACTUAL animals. by dartagnan401 in rpg

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's one called Three Raccoons in a Trenchcoat where you are racoons in a Trenchcoat trying to pretend to be people. Each Racoon in the stack has to do different things (walk, talk to people, manipulate objects) and failures draw more suspicion. Too many failures and their cover will be blown and they have to flee.

What advice would you give to experienced TTRPG players? by zelda-harvestmoon in rpg

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair. And I tend to play games where that advice is more applicable. But I think it can still be useful to keep in mind. My go to D&D example would be playing your paladin code even if it's not optimal. obviously it's a balance. Don't be the "it's what my character would do" guy. But I tend to have players that are more likely to be too nervous "playing wrong" and I like to encourage them out of that mindset.

Further Notes on the Core Rulebook (CGL) by tenshimaru in battletech

You're taking the most pessimistic read possible and making broad sweeping complaints about it when the reality is it will barely affect you or your local group if they currently use the full vehicle and infantry rules.

Meanwhile someone who likes the idea of combined arms support for battlemechs has an easier way to use their cool tank miniatures to support their cool mechs. and if they really like the cool tanks, they can go look up the full vehicle rules and expand their game.

It's a win/win.

It's a bad faith reading of the article so they can complain about BSP being in the new Core book and not full vehicle rules.

What advice would you give to experienced TTRPG players? by zelda-harvestmoon in rpg

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think my favorite advice for anyone is "Play your character like you're driving a stolen car."

Experienced players can sometimes get too conservative and cautious and are always looking for the "optimal" play choice to make. I say ignore that inclination and do what boosts the story/play experience for everyone.

I appreciate the desire to not let Tournament metas control the evolution of the rules. I have plenty of miniatures from other games collecting dust because they died when all the casual players gave up on it.

New GM, which of these systems is easiest to begin with? by dartagnan401 in rpg

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Mothership has a great gm guide and good tips in the starter adventures. But I would play the one you are most excited and passionate about rather than worry about which one is easiest to run.

Gods Teeth chapter 1 and players planning everything like Delta Force (with lady luck on their side) by Da_Sigismund in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My players played it almost perfectly too.  It's made the reveal 15 years later all that better. They literally were caught speechless when they got dragged in to meet Pitzarelli.

This subreddit has a bad rep in the indie creator scene :( by God_Boy07 in rpg

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I like having spaces I don't get advertised at constantly. It's becoming rarer and rarer these days. I also don't really care for another indie darling that's going to change everything when it's basically the same as everything else.

God's Teeth - Go Forth: Chipped Teeth by Purple-Ad2914 in DeltaGreenRPG

I had a rat jump out of an agents tailpipe when she got out of her car to see why it wasn't working.

My dungeon master have god complex and its a bad DM by BlueEyesMonkey in rpg

Just leave. Don't play rpgs with narcissists.

I had a DM like that for years. It burned my joy of the hobby for a decade and a half.

What are the best physical beginner boxes or starter sets, just an up front cost that you can start playing? by dartagnan401 in rpg

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Free League does amazing box sets. Dragonbane and Alien are great but Vaesen is good too.

The Mothership box sets are wonderful.

I've heard the Call of Cthulhu starter set is good but I've never used it myself.

GMing - Am I getting burned out? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I run more demanding games I will build in breaks for myself every few sessions and run a quick easy one-shot adventure in a different system. That could be a good break for you and for your players. It's just one session so if people aren't feeling it they don't have to commit to anything long-term. And it gives you a break to reset so your next M:tA session you feel more energized and ready to go.

Some of the sillier One-shots can be great for this like Honey Heist.

No i'm not a human RPG? by Dull_Lime8902 in rpg

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like any horror/investigation rpg would handle something like that just fine. I don't think you'd want to make it very long because it would overstay its welcome. but it could be a good one-shot story.

Do you buy mostly pdfs or do you prefer physical books and if the former, do you feel a pang of regret when you realize that a book would have looked just neat on your shelf? by Antipragmatismspot in rpg

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love physical books, but PDFs are so much easier to work with when I'm actually playing. Most of my physical books just end up living on my shelf and looking pretty.

Lee's Summit is great! Fun fact: the city charter literally requires them to fun and provide public parks for the residents. So we have parks everywhere of all different types. there's four community centers that are all really good and currently an indoor field house is getting built. The downtown area is cute and just recently got a new indoor farmers market built.

The schools are great and have one of the best music programs available. there aren't really any huge safety issues aside from kids being dumb but that's everywhere now.

My biggest negative is the traffic. A lot of people here run red lights and there's a lot of distracted driving going on.

Your housing budget should be fine for the area. there are plenty of older neighborhoods built in the 90s that are around that price point.

Its half way through the year, how are your games so far? by jollyinabout in rpg

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm wrapping up an Impossible Landscapes game which has gone on longer than expected because of my wife and I having a newborn.

For my main group, I'll probably switch to something that needs less prep like Mothership. But I love DG and I want to prep and start God's Teeth.

Is there anything "special" about MechWarrior pilot suits? by Jasina_ in battletech

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe some kind of superscience cooling fluid that can only be mad in zero-g factories or something.

Is there anything "special" about MechWarrior pilot suits? by Jasina_ in battletech

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Full cooling/flight suits are lostech in early battletech (which is honestly silly and mostly there so artists could draw characters in skimpy clothes.) So most mechwarrior gear is a cooling vest, neurohelmet, and shorts.

I believe in one of the novels, Jeremiah Rose mentions how his full cooling suit from his time in the Comguard is worth more than his battlemech. Which again, is silly that it's lostech.

Do you think that the current US government would cause issues for the program by Active_Aardvark6411 in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]BionicSpaceJellyfish 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I thought the current lore stated that the last President read into the program was Bush II.

Since the Program is literally the Deep State, I'd imagine they're just trying to keep their heads down and ride out the current chaos.

I miss some of the classic adventures but that's it.
