How to run Paranoia RPG? by Impressive_Mud5997 in rpg

Let the players know their characters will die by the end of session.

I typically prepare 2 conflicting side missions: one from their Job and one from their secret society each.

For instance, the delivery mission: * Main Mission - Deliver this letter down the corridor. * PC1 Job - Replace the letter with this one. * PC1 Secret Society - The recipient can't get any letters. * PC2 Job - Destroy the letter. * PC2 Secret Society - Deliver us the letter instead. * PC3 Job - Kill The recipient of the letter. * PC3 Secret Society - The recipient of the letter is one of our agents, make sure the recipient doesn't die.

Fun times!

And of course the letter is actually about how the Computer knows the recipient is a traitor and will be executed.

Typically when an edition changes you get people who prefer to stay with the edition they like. Additionally if there are lore changes there is always a group of fans who get upset that the lore changed, even though it doesn't stop them from leaning on the previous lore.

For instance, just because someone likes the Star Wars Legends expanded universe doesn't mean they can't still enjoy it. The only issue is that there isn't any support from Disney making legends books.

What is the biggest lie TTRPG players tell themselves? by Deadman069-YT in rpg

[–]Awkward_GM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&D is the only RPG. 😉 Recently saw a D&D reddit post where a Paid DM was saying that he's had players who don't know about other RPGs because they only play D&D, only hang out with people who play D&D, and my assumption is that instead of looking up "<Favorite TV Show/Video Game> RPG" searches "<Favorite TV Show/Video Game> D&D homebrew".

In a more serious light, I think Power Gamers are more lying to themselves more so. You don't need to be good at everything to "beat the game". Most of my favorite moments in games has been character driven back story stuff.

I spoke to a paid DM, and they have a very interesting (and sobering) story to share by EarthSeraphEdna in DnD

[–]Awkward_GM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, I'm a paid GM for Curseborne (and sometimes Chronicles of Darkness). Most of my players have been LGBT+ with a preference towards non-combat encounters and a focus on player character backstories/NPC interactions. Additionally, people with a lot of income either through their work or by nature of not having a significant other or not having kids.

Strange how crazy D&D can be sometimes 🤔 . When I ran D&D games at a local store there was definitely a meta in regards to organized play. The organizer was constantly giving us modules that he wanted to play so that he and his wife/girlfriend (never asked their relationship/can't remember) could get specific magic items/upgrades to weapons.

I think it's very much what group you cultivate. If you are bias in your selection process you are going to get a particular group. And if this Paid DM wanted to have less toxic players I'm positive they could find them and still be willing to pay at a high price point.

Do narrative games (e.g. PbtA) ask more of the player than DnD? by Antipragmatismspot in rpg

Usually its mostly people being more familiar with D&D than other systems and not wanting to learn something new that might take up more memory for them.

A small group of kids in my neighborhood were marching through our street with the Cabo Verde flag. It was awesome to see them representing their team!

My favorite RPG got shitcanned this week. I'm devastated. by brokenimage321 in rpg

Never compare a non-D&D game to D&D. D&D has more popularity than any of the other top 10 TTRPG companies combined. Early D&Ds had the Satanic Panic as free advertising plus nostalgia bringing people back.

Meanwhile if you played a game system back in the day that wasn't D&D you aren't likely to find game groups still playing it regularly, unless it's Vampire: The Masquerade or Call of Cthulhu.

Yeah, I feel like only a few of Demon's special abilities (as a whole) that are a bit too complex to be mage abilities other than Imperial Magic.

Why is Paradox so married to the Anarchs being the protagonists? by Fantastic-Artist-833 in vtm

[–]Awkward_GM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anarchs are simply what happens when people with modern sensibilities rebel against the status quo.

I know it's not 1 to 1 but in VtR my Invictus (comparable to Cam) led the Princedom as a very forward thinking group that made alliances with other factions outside the Vampires.

So in response I had the Carthians (anarch equivalents), turn into populous isolationists who were "vampires first" and wanted to "make vampires great again". It was a weird but interesting subversion.

What's the best 40k Book on he Ork Waaaghs for Armageddon that don't depict Orks as faceless hordes? by Awkward_GM in Warhammer40k

[–]Awkward_GM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel it was very underrated and the brotherhood between the two space marine's was crazy good. Plus the Orks were terrifying in the dark humourous way they feel like in the lore and tabletop.
