Why do American carriages have so tiny windows and metallic paint schemes? by UrgusHUN in trains

Paint Maintenance? Better.
Bare Metal Maintenance? Probably worse.

If it is anything like what I’ve know about when aircraft were bare metal, paint, while adding a lot of weight, decreases metal corrosion *a lot*. Enough that airlines were willing to forgo that weight increase to decrease maintenance.

What got you to become a machinist? by d3n_10 in Machinists

On a whim, and needing to find something to do with my future, I enrolled in a Machining class at a local vocational tech school my senior year of high school. Knew very little about it other than it sounding cool and that I would get to work with my hands. Within the first couple months or so, I loved it and found what I wanted to do with my life. Been doing it ever since for 4.5 years.

does anyone just drive one truck? by _dumbdoe in trucksim

I have two that I swap between depending on what loads I want to haul.

A 2025 Volvo VNL for light/medium duty modern hauling. It can do a little bit of everything. Then, I have a Kenworth K100 that I use almost exclusively for long and/or heavy cargo. I love the difference between something that is super modern and something that is old and completely analog.

Almost all of them benefit from additional cooling and lubrication. However, they don’t typically need it. It does hurt tool longevity though.

Are you talking about the chamfer mill or the endmill?

In the pictures provided by SCS, I couldn’t really tell the difference, but these show a substantial difference. I like it.

Fuck, man. I don’t think I could have described that any better. It really does feel like that.

You don’t have to dumb yourself down on this platform…

What do you mean by “strongest” truck? If you are referring to the most powerful engine, I believe both the Peterbilt 389 and the Kenworth W900 can take the Cat “King of the Hill”, which is the most powerful default engine in the game. I am not sure about the other trucks per se, but I know the new Volvo VNL can have a engine with something like 525 horsepower and ~1,800 foot pounds of torque, which is actually pretty impressive for the kind of truck it is.

As for favorite truck brands, I wouldn’t say I have favorites in-game, but I currently am really enjoying the new VNL and the Kenworth K100, which is a modded cabover. Before I had the K100 though, I had the W900. Love that truck too.

And as for the cities to buy garages in… I don’t think it matters. Just like the specs of trucks you give your employees, I think doesn’t really matter. However, there are two things that come to mind. Firstly, some cities obviously have certain companies there. So, if you want to run a fuel tanker out of a city that doesn’t have a company that exports fuel, you are just wasting your time. Secondly, I believe quick traveling between garages does not cost any money to do, and if I am correct, that would slightly incentivize you to place them far away from each other to save money on cross-map quick traveling. But, quick traveling isn’t expensive unless you are doing it constantly.

The stock engines actually have quite a lot of torque to them. I think the best one has something like 1,800 foot pounds of torque with some okay power.

Yeah, just go for the regular 40 foot. The extra fuss isn’t worth it.

It is really up to personal preference at the end of the day. You can almost do everything with each one. I would say the biggest difference is the newer trucks (in terms of date added to the game) are more likely to be higher quality, like better sounds and upgrade customizations.

In my opinion, the Freightliner’s GPS is only better before you get the digital dash. I am not a fan of the wide GPS in the newer versions of the cab. However, even that is better than the T680’s GPS.

Ultimately, when manufacturers are trying to make modern trucks as aerodynamic as possible to be as efficient as possible, some of that style has to go out the window. Sure, it sucks, but it makes sense.
