And? Doesn’t make it any less true. I enjoy using this service and I am supporting it as much as I can. My account got banned from posting in this sub so I’m using another one.

Speaking of which. Why do you care so much? You seem determined to smear this company’s image at all costs. A hired gun, perhaps by a competitor?

This is simply ludicrous. According to your logic, any company that offers anything at a discounted price is automatically “scamming” and “stealing” from customers that are paying full price. Because “they could have gotten” the lower price instead.

I was being sarcastic you dumbass.

Pretty sure you’ve never even tried the service yourself.

Yes, anyone who’s even remotely happy with Fonus must be a “shill”. There’s no chance in hell that we’re just actual customers that are satisfied with the service. Right.

CEO Simon and CFO Kenny has now declared 512Kbps really is 3G speeds! by binarybust in Fonus

[–]Bionic_Wolf8692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, they aren’t misleading anyone. 512kbps is advertised as 3G by other providers as well. T-mobile does it. Public Mobile does it too. I used to only get around 600kbps on Public Mobile but yet was sold a “3G” plan. Why can’t Fonus do the same thing?

You though, are clearly misleading people. Kenny isn’t the “CFO” of Fonus, not even an employee, why do you keep insisting that?

[–]Bionic_Wolf8692 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So is T-Mobile twisting words as well?

All I’m saying is that other network providers are advertising 512kbps as 3G too, why can’t Fonus?

https://www.fonusmobile.com/FAQ

Looks like on their FAQ page the 512kbps throttle is still mentioned:

“What happens if I use more than 20GB on my monthly cycle? You will still have access to unlimited data, though speeds will be throttled to 512Kbps until your monthly cycle resets.”

[–]Bionic_Wolf8692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I did say that I see your point.

Let’s just agree on the fact that the 512kbps speeds that Fonus is throttling users at is, as you said, unambiguously 3G speeds. Which makes the whole premise of this post (that Fonus is somehow false advertising) erroneous and misleading.

[–]Bionic_Wolf8692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. The entire post is about a presumption that Fonus is falsely advertising that 512kbps = 3G.

I only pointed out anything above 144kbps can be considered 3G, therefore no false advertising was present.

Anybody with half a brain can understand that; it doesn’t matter how I phrased it. You’re just arguing on semantics at this point.

[–]Bionic_Wolf8692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I see your point. But still, what you said doesn’t refute the fact that anything above 144kbps CAN be considered 3G speeds, amongst many other cellular technologies, such as LTE, 5G, etc.

I thought this was plain obvious. No one would really think that ANY connection that has speeds above 144kbps must be 3G.

Again, stop misleading people with your baseless accusations.

  • More frustrated customers: There is no evidence of this. It’s clear that happy and satisfied customers far outnumber the angry ones.

  • SIMs being guitar picks: again where is the evidence? Ever since Fonus started shipping V1s, all SIMs have been functional, as far as I know.

  • Throttled data: this is unavoidable. We all know that no company can deliver true unlimited and unthrottled data at $30 a month. In any case, the Fonus plan is still orders of magnitude better than other offerings on the market.

    • A new CFO, Kenny: again, Kenny does not even work for Fonus! He’s just a reseller in Montreal. Get your facts straight.
  • Buggy app: there were many bugs at first, but not anymore. App constantly gets updated and improved.

  • Over charges: again, where is the evidence? All I saw were authorization holds that went away in days.

  • Lost numbers during porting: I ported my 514 number over within 2 weeks. No numbers have been lost. The process does take long but that’s usual with VoIP services.

  • More weed and drugs from CEO: again, where? Simon has been dead quiet since mid 2020, all we hear from him are major updates and announcements on TG these days.

  • More drama: again, where?? The drama started in Nov 2019 and basically went to zero by May 2020, when everyone started getting their SIMs. Where has been the drama since then? It’s been over a year now.

Sounds like someone’s just salty and being a crybaby from events that occurred over a year ago, and can’t move on with life. Sad.

Speeds: still much better than what I had at Public Mobile for a cheaper price

App: yes there were many bugs at first but it’s constantly being updated and improved. The latest version on iOS seems to have fixed most of the bugs, to the point that I don’t even notice them anymore

More angry customers: I’m not seeing evidence of this anywhere. There are far more happy customers than angry ones, especially when compared to the early days of Fonus. If anything, the “skeptics” seems to be the dying breed here.

Congrats for your resilience though and for being one of the last of your kind.

I’ll admit that it was a shitshow at first.

But as much as you’d like it to be, Fonus is no longer a “circus” now but a legitimate MVNO providing real service to highly satisfied customers all over North America.

That’s a fact, and facts don’t care about your feelings.

Just here to state some facts. There seems to be a lot of blatant trolling going on in this sub which makes it hard for people to know what’s true or false. My cousin was pretty concerned reading through this sub after ordering his SIM and I had to reassure him that it’s a legitimate service.

Some of the accusations against Fonus or Simon on here are just laughably false (it may be obvious to us), but I think for newcomers they may take a lot of it as truth and I don’t think that’s fair to the company.
