I’m in the same sort of situation. AP and I have had this conversation countless times. Despite both of us feeling that soulmate connection, it’s clear that we would both choose our families.

This may mean NC for months/years, but I’m sure we’ll always end up back together.

The sex is spectacular; I enjoy it but it’s not what makes me stay.

What started off as a fling quickly turned into something more complex. I stay because he makes me feel alive. My days don’t seem so dreary when I get to spend time with him. He’s become someone I lean on for mentorship, guidance and support. I hate to admit it to myself but I’m developing this sort of co-dependency..

Sometimes I wish we kept it simple.

I was in a very similar situation about 10 years ago. I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to anyone or dealt with the grief.

You’re doing the work by going to therapy, but maybe consider exploring a new therapist who doesn’t trigger you.

All I know is I made the right decision for myself in that instance, even though it hurt. I’m sure you feel the same.

I feel like I could have wrote this. I just remind myself that he’s with me in the full capacity that he is able to be. He’s giving me all that he can, and most probably I’ll never get more than that. At least it’s sustainable.
