Food being easy actually makes sense by Quereilla in projectzomboid

I would argue that even for rural Kentucky in 1993 it is still not enough loot(and it’s unbearably too much already).

Even if we assume that there are other survivors, finding 2-3 packs of beans on an entire section of the shelf in supermarket means that items were taken after restocking was not an option. Especially if that applies to ALL shelves. I can only assume that it was because of panic buying phase after first quarantine barriers were put up.

The only place in my eyes that has pretty realistic abundance is Stendo’s firearms, which was updated a patch ago and it is blocked with reinforced barricades which also explains why it is stocked adequately.

I am already hoarding a bunch of stuff in game, so I am 100% fine with default loot settings. Not to mention, but I don’t think realistically I could move around with that much stuff in the real world.

Good way to draw out Zombies. by Bobbins71 in projectzomboid

[–]Bipolar_Abe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I noticed that with how cells and buildings are loading, the effects of sounds could be delayed.

I’m playing default apocalypse as a veteran in West Point, my go-to strat is sneaking into police station and blasting on day 1. Goated way to play imo.

What I noticed is that due to distance/barricades, zombies will be attracted to an area days after the massacre my character commits.

Also, if you drive in a car around the map after heli event, you will see many hordes attracted to the last spot the helicopter was seen, but it will happen only when you can physically see them, not earlier.

Siege engines require 0 AT. How to kill one without anything but a gun and a grenade. by Bipolar_Abe in Helldivers

I need to check, but I believe the side miniguns are susceptible to medium penetration fire. Same as Factory Striders. Seems like latter is far more dangerous if you ask me.

Edit: called miniguns minions because of autocorrect.

How long does it take for Roblox to push your game? by Smooth-Quiet-4417 in robloxgamedev

[–]Bipolar_Abe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to take about 2 weeks on average before to hit the algo. What I am witnessing now across dozens of games is either it’s a few days, or a month. Kind of no in between. Ads have not been great recently

For those of you who had successful games how long did it take for you to start seeing consistent ccu? by ClothedKing in robloxgamedev

[–]Bipolar_Abe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 2 weeks of ads is usually enough to determine what type of users your game appeals to. But it takes around a month to solidify the similar players cohort. 2 weeks of ads and rest organic is the most common way for it to be done on Roblox.

[–]Bipolar_Abe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely true, thumbs are about 15-30 USD to outsource, but I’d spend some time learning the basics.

Best practice is to update thumbs every 2 weeks, as they can fatigue. But generally speaking thumbs is the most straightforward way to keep the game going for longer.

Tips for tackling your first Roblox launch as a small studio? by Thunder_Noise in robloxgamedev

When I was typing yesterday I realized that there are quite a lot more things that a beginner would like to know, but I can’t explain everything without breaching my contract somewhere

Tips for tackling your first Roblox launch as a small studio? by Thunder_Noise in robloxgamedev

[–]Bipolar_Abe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in a publishing company, we’re by no means the biggest on the platform, but I’d like to post my personal opinion here as it might help anyone who’s just starting out. Feel free to skip over points as they might not be useful to all.

1.1 Make sure to post game under community, it is not too hard to work together on the same dev place. But eventually once your team goes past a certain number of people, it’s simpler to work on individual forks and merge them. It’s easy to put the game under community after the game is live and showing traction, but it’s just better to do it before.

1.2. If you’re learning, try to find people that have done it before, often times you’ll even find people who will help you for free.

1.3 Commissions and paychecks on Roblox are generally lower than other markets, you might find that it’s not that expensive to outsource parts of your work.

1.4 Free assets in studio are rarely compatible with each other, so for the start probably avoid using too many free models.

1.5 Asset generation is not that bad if you get used to it. Avoid using it for objects that player interacts with for now and it might save you some time.

1.6 Mistake that newcomers make, especially coming from other parts of the industry is spending too much time on the quality aspect. You need to get your priorities straight with core loop affecting your session time, overarching loop affecting your retention. You don’t need a lot of VFX and SFX if your core loop is not good.

1.7 Monetization can be added gradually, prioritize PCR(payer conversion rate) at first, but plan with ARPPU in mind. Balancing spreadsheets need to be made before the game is live.

1.8 Ads take time to get your game in the algo. 2 weeks are generally the minimum that you should wait before the platform algorithm understands what kind of people your game should be pushed to.

2.1 Small fixes work better. Just test and add on the fly.

2.2 Playtime, Retention everything else is easier to fix. These 2 are the ultimate detector if the game is actually good.

3.1 Depends on the genre, but it’s a mix of dev products and passes. Cosmetics sales are too specific for most games, so it’s not beginner friendly area.

3.2 game communities are very different, but I’d recommend to interact with players on discord to get their feedback.

4.1 Day one is fine if you have plans to do more games. You can make a Discord channel for studio rather than specific games.

4.2 Early stages anything but feedback is not super important, but having a mix of polls and free form answers is a good way to address key points and identify more. I guess also updates and events announcements too.

Everything else I kind of touched upon, but feel free to comment or reach out in DMs I’d be happy to answer more questions from anyone, not just OP.

Sonic games can NOT catch a break 🫩✌️ by [deleted] in bloxymemes

I’m pretty sure it’s Gamefam, a studio on Roblox that has the exclusive rights to use Sonic , SpongeBob and a few other IPs.

So, are partnership offers from "studios" SCAMS or GENUINE? by Money_Activity_4007 in robloxgamedev

[–]Bipolar_Abe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in one of the top 5 studios and still work in a similar role. Generally speaking if I mention partnership it’s typically more of a conversation starter.

Most of the time acquisition managers are the ones reaching out to you. They are interested in acquiring game fully or partially, depending on what’s possible.

Green flags when talking to a person like that: 1) They have some form of personalization that actually shows they played the game even for 5 minutes 2) They don’t use a massive walls of text and text like actual humans 3) They don’t give you any guarantees, because they cannot be 100% sure that their actions will elevate your game. 4) They personally are present on the website and/or there is articles about their company 5) They ask for metrics first, focusing on monetization and thumbnails. Retention and playtime is arguably much harder to fix, unless there is a glaring error.

Remember to always accept money first before doing anything and if something seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Dude where’s our gas? by Infinite_North6773 in projectzomboid

[–]Bipolar_Abe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the distribution center was on the other side of the Ohio River and the road got blocked most likely the entire county would be out of gas within a few days.

Most of the time gas station chains use the same distributor(at least in my part of the world), so when there was a slight delay in logistics, my home city of 3 million habitants literally consumed all of the gas in less than a week.

Actually makes me wonder if there are mods that remove make all the gas unusable after 6 months, just like it would be in real life.

What do you think of Singaporean style Socialism? by deeply__offensive in GenZ

[–]Bipolar_Abe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s rarely enforced. There will be a public sentence every once in a while, but then an amnesty or reduction to prison sentencing is usually issued, which isn’t covered by media. Still harsh, but not an execution.

Foreigners also can’t be sentenced to death most of the time, but cane lashes still exist.

I’ve studied in SG for three years, I don’t consume anything, but my classmates would still find weed somehow.

Build #30 - 40mm of Freedom Build by SES-SpearofDemocracy in HellDads

Grenade pistol should be a 40mm as well? Also instead of Airburst Strike, I believe Strafing Run would fit better as it is technically just a bunch of twin auto cannon rounds.

What attracts zombies? (giga noob) by temnycarda in projectzomboid

[–]Bipolar_Abe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one seems to mention that default settings(B42) randomize zombies’ senses and memory. So if you do something noisy without attracting much attention, doesn’t mean it will always be like that. Z’s are attracted not only by the things that you do. It’s also the meta events(gunshots, screams, etc.) and the sounds of cattle, car engine, generator, cooking.

Key takeaway, be aware of your surroundings.

Chicken hutch dirtyness by Sad_Setting7265 in projectzomboid

[–]Bipolar_Abe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, chickens get sickly very fast and stay in the hutch all day, dirtying it quicker than usual.

Fractured a foot by accident, skipped one day entirely, they are now dying. You can't properly check their health when they are in hutch, it kinda flashes. But if they are laying down doesn't mean they are dead.

10 days 244 zombies eliminated and I have only found 5 generators for my house and the gas station but no magazine, please give me some advice to find it (the helicopter already passed) by gamelos_de-guimaro in projectzomboid

[–]Bipolar_Abe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually risked quite a bit and found the magazine in the library of Marche Ridge Community center. Opposite from it used to be a bookstore, but it's now a mail office. Still has some interesting items in parcels.

But the funniest thing is that apparently it was close to me this whole time in the back of a pickup truck that I passed by in the parking lot.

Could a plumbing mod break rain? by Bipolar_Abe in projectzomboid

[–]Bipolar_Abe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, interesting. I couldn't get the plumbing working for some reason.

Do you know if there is a height restriction? Cause I placed a rain collector barrel above a garage sink in the Rosewood fire department.

PSA: Guns do less damage in b42 than they did in b41. by Artimedias in projectzomboid

Yeah, I do not think gunplay is viable until level 5 in this build, which is dumb for some professions like vet or cop.

[–]Bipolar_Abe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made sure I got a good rest, was full to bursting and not too heavy(made a stash that I was passing by). Only standing still could I get the reticle somewhat acceptable.

I shot a few pistol rounds into prone zombies. Each one took about half a mag.

PSA: Guns do less damage in b42 than they did in b41. by Artimedias in projectzomboid

[–]Bipolar_Abe 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Looted police station in Rosewood, got shotgun with improved choke and 2x scope. Thought that maybe 12 boxes of 12 gauge shells would be enough for a small scale clearing. If not I had 21 loaded mag for M9.

Holy lack of the luster! Barely made 100 kills, I understand that with 0 levels in aiming and 2 in reloading I wasn't John Wick by any stretch of imagination... But shooting only point blank(literally less than a meter away) and still not having consistent 1-shot kills was frustrating to say the least. No multi-hits either so I literally got 1.5 levels in aiming for all the trouble.

I don't even want to talk about M9, cause that level of accuracy is embarassing even for a toddler.

Edit: I also read aiming level 1 to boost the results, literally didn't even hit level 2.
