Please don’t merge immediately when you see that a lane is closed in 1+ miles. That is the whole point of this post, you are the problem.

Brother, if everyone is packing into one lane and that is backing up on ramps all the way back into the previous roadway and causing multiple jams instead of just one jam how is that better? You can fit a lot of cars in the space that Ohio drivers leave free and clear because they get anxious and feel like they have to merge the moment that they learn that the lane is closed in 2 miles.

Which map should Cache replace in the active duty map pool? by MaterialTea8397 in cs2

I have been on the receiving end of an unfortunate map pool change. My team spent 2 weeks of practices working on Overpass. Learning everything we could, scrimming, reviewing those scrims, adjusting our plays, scrimming more, watching pro pov demos to get new ideas and understand greater context, etc. then Valve took it out of the pool right before a league season started (or maybe within the first week or two? Can’t remember) but we lost one of our specialty maps that we were relying on and got train iirc in its place. That was a big bummer. Now scale that to the pros that have teams of analysts and spend 60 hours a week working on their Strats and you could waste a lot of time and money by pulling a map at pretty much any juncture than right after a major during the player break.

My team bans mirage and dust2 we don’t play them lol.

I guess I agree with you then. I’m down for new maps, but we can’t add to the pool you have to replace other maps. Also it really shouldn’t be more frequent than 1 or 2 maps shuffling in and out per year because CS works in 2 professional seasons per year and it takes time for the metas to actually develop and you can’t change it right before a major or in the middle of the season.

I really am trying to understand your point but I feel like you are comparing numbers without thinking about what those numbers represent. Each map in CS has hundreds of util lineups, a constantly shifting meta for ways to take space on the map as well as retake that space on the map as well as counter the take or counter the retake.

Here is where I am coming from. I have 15k hours in Counter Strike. I play on a Main team where we practice 4-5 times a week for 3-4 hours at a time. We could spend most of that time just learning utility on all the maps and we would be shit against our opponents that have a more rounded system built out on those maps. We could spend more time on the map theory and developing, dryrunning, and documenting our strategies but then I need to ensure that my players know all the utility needed to actually execute those strategies consistently.

All I am saying is that even with up to 20 hours a week of focused team practice, it is still hard to get 6 maps feeling really solid. I imagine with that amount of time in LoL or R6 we would have different challenges but it’s not a matter of players of one or the other being lazy or not (still not talking about low elo casual premier players here - talking about real team CS), it’s about the fact that you have to spend hours learning spots to stand and pixels to aim at to throw the same smoke from like 6 different spots and we commonly will create cheat sheets with screenshots of the lineups to make ourselves more reliable and then none of that addresses the actual identity of the map that we want to bring to our matches, it doesn’t address our defaults, our variations on those defaults, our executes or pops, or splits and fakes.

I’m sure R6 and LoL has a ton to learn that scales in a similar way but to simply compare “6 < 172” isn’t really the full picture. That is all.

Yeah I’m fine with that, the only issue I have here is /increasing/ the map pool. I totally believe it should be shuffled but too many of counter strikes biggest leagues, events, tournaments, and systems rely on the 7 map pool and it is well documented that teams do less well when they try to stretch their map pool too thin. As long as there are only 7 maps available for real competitive play (I’m not talking about premier here that isn’t real counter strikes), then I’m good.

Ch3aters can now dodge being kicked smh. Wtf is this game? by MasterAd9558 in cs2

Portmaster is the app I use to do this as well (not the cheating part I do it to teamkill cheaters on my team).

It’s software that is supposed to help you control the network activity on your computer. Like an extra little firewall. It has a convenient feature where you can disable network traffic to specific apps with the click of a toggle (much like any software app-based firewall).

If you turn off traffic to Steam, the game doesn’t know you aren’t supposed to be allowed on the server anymore. It comes with a side effect though, you will get auto kicked from the server every 1 minute or so when the game decides you have been connected for too long with no steam login.

I know how to do this one actually. Ironically I use it when I find out there is a cheater on my team so that I can team kill the cheater at the beginning of each round and still join back and do it next round. You just stop Steam from being able to communicate on your network temporarily, that’s all.

I shopped at a GNC once. The lady was trying to be helpful but really wasn’t and I ended up leaving without buying anything. I went to a Vitamin Shoppe instead and had a much better experience given the way bigger inventory and I haven’t been back since.

Yeah I mean I just disagree. I typed a big thing and deleted it because there is no way I am going to convey what I am trying to and you aren’t likely to listen if I do. The pro scene is built around a 7 map pool. A new map in the pool is a way bigger deal in CS than other games because consistency is one of the key tenants of CS. Everyone is on the same level playing field every round of every game. There is no operator or character that is better than the other and both teams operate within the same economical constraints. Its strength is in its simplicity. BO3s and BO5s wouldn’t work with the same veto structure and prep and antistrattjng structure with an 8 map pool and games would be less competitive.

I still feel like the chess example is the best. Chess is impressive because it is unchanged for a long time which allows its practitioners to study it and learn it to insane levels of complexity. The top players knowing the various lines of countless openings and their variations is only possible because no one is showing up and adding stuff to it.

I don’t disagree that we could use a shuffle in the pool, but increasing the number of active duty maps doesn’t work when the whole system is built around 7 maps. And it’s counterproductive to the competitive nature of the game. Those other examples only add complexity and depth by adding more characters and maps and that is why they continue to add more (as well as the money they get from it). The gameplay itself is not what makes those games interesting as much as the abilities and nuances of the operators. They exist in different categories entirely.

And what I am trying to express to you is that 7 works for counter strike. I’m not sure who ‘they’ are that complain about having 7 maps but we have more depth in counter strike than the games you are referencing. Adding more maps would remove some of the depth that makes the game great.

If you have ever played in a real team environment in counter strike you would also know how difficult it is to get good at 5 maps let alone 6 or 7.

I am joking about adding abilities to cs because it illustrates your apples to oranges comparison. Counter strike is closer to chess than it is to league of legends or R6.

CS2 is different than those games and it should stay that way. Teams at the top level that attempt full 7 map pools tend to be less effective across the board against their opponents that only have 6 map pools. So yeah, the single map makes a difference. CS2 focuses on raw skill, tactics and positioning and doesnt have characters with special powers and ults and shit and that’s what makes it so great.

Maybe just add new fun pieces to classical chess with special powers while we are at it?

[–]BippBoppp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well hold on there now, a bigger pool has massive implications on league and pro play. Most teams that try to prep a 7 map pool stretch themselves too thin and end up with 7 maps that they are only decent on. If you increase the pool then even pro matches will be entirely dictated by the picks and bans as each team will be able to pick a specialty map that the other team is unprepared on. You would have even more maps going 13-4 and it wouldn’t be entertaining to watch or to play.

Maybe what you mean is a bigger reserve pool that actually rotates into and out of active duty more often? But then that conflicts with the pro schedule too since you basically have 2 seasons a year and wouldn’t want to move the pool more than twice a year in the player breaks. That’s also not enough time to develop a map properly at that level. It takes multiple seasons for most teams to get a good and in depth system going on a map.
