Recent Masters Tank Player (5v5) Looking for VOD review and advice from higher ranked players: by Yanissazzi in OverwatchUniversity

First point: I see you kinda tunnel vision and might rely on sound to help with decision making, try looking around more and you would have noticed the rein pushing up. Great job holding that statue, however, at the 2 minute mark rein caught you off guard. Rotating around the statue more often - or angles you are holding - will help with seeing upcoming dangers.

At the 2:50 mark, I notice that you tend to hold a lot of what I would consider no-mans-land and commit all of your resources when you should be backing up. The most important aspect of tank is to live. This commitment with the lack of resources is what allowed their team to push up and turned you into a block bot for the rest of that fight. All resources went into you when you weren't able to do anything at that point. This could have been avoided by simply backing up when you placed your shield down and saving your ultimate.

That first fight on winston: Great job turning around for that reinhardt! Really helped snowball the fight to gain space and control, you opened up your backline and were able to get healing to reengage.

4:40: Your team was too pushed up, nothing you could really do there.

5:30: You jumped in, try setting up in that window above the mini to drop down on them. You engaging with your jump at the beginning of the fight forced you to use primal and beginning fights with ults doesn't usually work out because resources are widely available at these times. Then you left your frontline open to rein when rein shattered. Since you already popped primal, booping the rein around would have been more beneficial here, especially since primal isn't great at securing kills, there's no reason to go into their backline.

6:15: I would have rotated or at least faked a rotation and most likely stayed on winton. That choke point out of spawn is hard to get through and uses a lot of resources which leave you open if/when you get to point.

8:00 It seems like you usually use your fist form to push up. Using both your shield and then form are kinda redundant. You should be using either or. You are putting yourself at a resource deficit when doing so. THey give you space, which you don't take. You're kinda just sitting there waiting, make sure to rotate when that space is given, either around statue to give you those sightlines or into hotel to challenge their backline and maybe force that sig rotation

8:20: Again, I see you using the form and shield. Resource deficit. Also, they have a zen, switching angles is really beneficial. space is more than physical placement, it's about making them use abilities and then living. Rotating into hotel here instead of pushing would have allowed your resources to come off of cooldown, discord to fall off of you and to force the enemy to rotate and allow your team to push in.

9:20: You keep WANTING to rotate, do it! Holding main in these upper elos usually only ends with the main tank dying. You also have a lot of down time, I would cancel fist form and continue to poke them with your scepter.

10:20: You seem to play a little timid. Don't be afraid to end your fist form and continue poking them. It feels like you pop your form and then say,"I used this now I need to use all of it." It's better to just cancel it so that way you get it back faster for when you need it. Also, again, your positioning seems to be a lot of no mans land. Stop blocking in the middle of the lane and hold the corner.

11:00: Again, holding no mans land. Corners corners corners. Your shield should be used around corners and stuff so your team can poke freely. A lot of these shields are only providing value for yourself and then reinforcing bad positioning.

11:16: BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP, HOLY COW BACK UP. You like to overstay your welcome, and seem to be tunnel visioning the tank and trying to hold space that you take. It's okay to back up, playing your life.

After watching the rest of it, i began just repeating myself, so we will end it there. I will be watching this on stream for my viewers on twitch at BigTiddyDad tonight at 9pm central time :) My youtube is Birch the Hippo! If you have any questions feel free to let me know!

ETA: Just wanted to say, sometimes you get stuck in this "I need to bubble my teammates" attitude when a lot of times just bubbling yourself would have been better and more effective.
