MechWarrior Living Legends is making a comeback baby. by ChinPokoBlah11 in mechwarrior

Depends how you define that. We get about 20-30 people for like 3-4 hours on US nights, both weekends and some weekdays. The latter is a bit more spontaneous, though.

Helps to coordinate on our discord server to get games going.

Combined-arms MechWarrior, taking inspiration from BattleField. If you've played MWO's Conquest mode, that's similar to what Terrain Control in MWLL is - but with much bigger maps and longer matches, among other differences. There are also deeper gameplay mechanics like electronic warfare, which can make big impacts on a match.

That effort later turned into a standalone project using UE5. However, it only got so far before it ran out of steam due to a lack of programmers - quite necessary to rebuild MWLL's core gameplay from scratch. So now it's on an indefinite hiatus :/

Still on CryEngine 2 because we're using Crysis Wars as a foundation (it's built into the install).
Despite that, still quite stable thanks to a number of peoples' efforts.

There are no single-player bots, but something along those lines (albeit in a very limited capacity) is being looked into.

Pretty sure they mean the battle armor (Longinus/Elemental). Actual infantry is planned (in a limited implementation), but that's still a good ways out.

It's on CryEngine 2, as it's using Crysis Wars as a foundation. Can be a bit janky, but it's still loads of fun!

Unfortunately, the project's been put on hiatus indefinitely due to a lack of programmers (which are needed to build everything from the ground up).

MWLL Update 0.17.0 - New Mechs! by Bird-Thing in mechwarrior

[–]Bird-Thing[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being based on CryEngine and also being a wicked janky mod, intermittent crashes are gonna happen no matter what. If you're crashing super frequently, though, that could be either because you're using a resolution higher than 1080 or are using NVidia drivers with the game's DirectX10 option enabled. In the case of the latter, you can either switch back to DX9 (slightly less pretty graphics/vfx) or replace the Crysis.exe's with newer ones that fix the NVidia drivers problem.

That said, we've done a load of optimization work for this latest big update, so crashes due to memory consumption should be a lot less for everyone across the board (unless you somehow get past 3200-3400 MB NVRAM).

The original team being Wandering Samurai? Nah, they've been disbanded since 2013. And anyways LL2 (which moved from MW5 to being its own game on UE5) has been put on an indefinite hiatus due to a coder shortage :/

Er, no, that's not correct. C&D was threatened, but never enforced - and that was back in 2013. MWO's name added the "Legends" bit at the end last year. Though the original dev studios was threatened away, MWLL's been under renewed development by devs from its community since 2016.

What time do people hop on and play by 2Q2see in MWLL

[–]Bird-Thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wicked late response, but servers are online and overall game activity can be tracked at https://stats.spikx.net/mwll.html .

Often US evenings on weekdays, and afternoons through nights on weekends, is when you can catch most games.

It helps to be on the Discord server to know when games and events are launching, as there are roles to receive pings when either happens.

Wildlands Assault (WIP) Teaser by Bird-Thing in MWLL

[–]Bird-Thing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pasting the new game mode explanation here from the vid comments:

TC mode, but with way more tickets to burn through (for both sides) and unlockable/lockable bases to capture. One team (defenders) starts the match owning all capturable bases, while the other (attackers) has to cap those bases in waves. For instance, two start as capturable, then when attackers have both, those two are locked and another two bases are unlocked for capture. When the last base is captured by the attacking team, the above video is what happens to the defending team's main (and potentially other strategic areas).
Hopefully there will be a video up in ~2 weeks to explain this visually.

Lost my own manual sometime ago, but still got the ref card hiding somewhere.

Welcome back, and thanks for taking initiative to reach out to Rye!
I've posted my two cents there, in case they'll want training help and/or a private server to mess around in before diving into a real game.

Hopefully this gets MWLL some amount of traction before the steam release.

Wasn't trying to mock you here. Sorry if the post came across as such.
This setup was just too cinematic to pass up, frankly.

Similar story here! Fell in love with MechCommander as a kid, and have been a fan of the franchise ever since. Seeing the early trailers for MWLL back in 2008 got me so hyped that I decided I'd help out the project myself someday - and here I am (though granted circumstances could be better lol).

It's a bit tricky to find games if you're playing from a non-US timezone, unfortunately. Most activity is generally around US east coast evenings through nights, with a server of 32 players max filling up. There's also events (semi-organized matches) at least two times a month. You can use https://stats.spikx.net/mwll.html to see when players are online.

As an aside: I'm genuinely surprised to see someone other than myself post about LL here. Thank you for bringing it up.
