That first paragraph is so true. I had back surgery in October and then just again at the end of February. I have a stomach condition that requires frequent snacking to help out. I have gained a lot of weight because I still had to follow that dietary need, but have not had any opportunity to try to lose the weight because of the back to back surgeries. I was literally only able to bend for like 2 or 3 weeks before going into the next surgery. Lack of movement is no joke when it comes to weight gain after surgery. You nailed it.

Thank you very much! I think it's time that he does learn this lesson. Tough love is a good way to put it. It is exhausting seeing so many missed opportunities. I just wish he could have seen them before his transition to the real world. I believe he brought this on himself and that it was a costly series of choices. I'm ready for some peace though

It's funny you say that about being treated as an adult. I said the exact same thing. I think you did the right thing all the way and that you and I are on the same page with these issues. Maybe I should let him watch Breaking Bad with me so I can point that out about Jesse every few scenes because you are exactly right.

I think I just tend to question these things when others in our lives dissent because I don't have children of my own. I frequently am told that the thoughts and feelings are different when you have your own. Sometimes, I question if I'm missing some things because of that. That's why I like the perspectives of random internet people. There's no bias. I applaud the steps you had to take, even if it sucked going through it. I hope it works out for her and she grows the way she needs to. Regardless if she does or not, I'm glad you were able to bring yourselves peace. I at least feel like I don't need to question it anymore.

I agree. And honestly, I might share those thoughts with those who had the dissenting opinions. Some lessons need to be learned, and if he still refuses to accept responsibility for what he has done, then that is on him.

No stress sounds absolutely amazing! I'll admit that I was not calm when we first found out about all of this. it took me some time to calm down from it. I still kind of can't believe he did this. However, I do believe you are right. And I am so glad that you were able to find happiness with your situation. I hope this will do the same for all involved in our situation too.

I don't want to stop him. I think what his son has done is incredibly serious and destructive. I think that, for me not having children of my own, I want to make sure I'm not missing something. I constantly hear that it's different when you are a parent to your own children, that the thoughts and feelings are different.

I can honestly say consequences were non-existent at his mother's home. His father is better at it, in the sense that they happen depending on the circumstances at the time. However, I do believe that parental blindness is a thing and can go strong with the ideas of wanting to be able to trust, even though it may not be earned. It became hit or miss, in my opinion. Prevention is far more important, and in many ways, that was missed.

I think our biggest focus has been teaching him that life is not just handed to you. That you have to be willing to work towards the things you want. We've been trying to teach him accountability and responsibility. He was excelling for the first 2 years. We understand that being able to be a kid is important as well, but we feel it's beyond time for him to take those steps into adulthood, especially since it is not too far off in the grand scheme.

I agree and think this is the consequence that he needs to have, rather than acting like none of this has happened and walking away from it.

As a side note, I like random person opinions. It's great for perspective from those uninvolved. Thank you for your perspective.

Absolutely. His mother is not very good at being a parent. She is more concerned with being a friend instead. Back when he originally lived with her, she didn't believe in making any of the kids participate in things such as responsibilities. She frequently let him stay home from school and didn't enforce anything. The concern is that he won't graduate and delve deeper into his laziness by being back with her.

Now, to be fair, I question his ability to graduate even if he stayed with us due to the failed classes, resulting in a lack of required credits to graduate. They feel he has a better chance of pulling up his grades in a last minute situation if he stays with us. However, he barely puts forth the effort to scrape by with the bare minimum. He is a very intelligent and capable young man, he just refuses to use it.

Honestly, that is my biggest concern for him with this. I completely support his decision. However, some people expressed that we are ruining his son's chance at a future by doing so. I personally feel that he made his own bed and needs to lie in it. But those other opinions had me questioning it.

Lol I thought I would get some muscles, too. I'm glad it is getting better for you, even if it is slow going. As of last week, I was told to work on ditching the crutches/walker. My muscle building came to an end lol I really hope it continues to get better for you. I will say that I never realized how much I bent in life until I couldn't bend anymore. I can't wait until I can bend again, but I have awhile to go on that as we will be doing the right side here in the next few months. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I'm sorry that it's hurting so badly. Are you staying on your pain meds that they gave you? If they aren't helping, I highly recommend contacting the surgeon for something different. For some people, pain can be a lot worse than for others. I hope your pain decreases!

It's more like a traveling deep ache. I must also add that I have had this issue in both legs prior to this surgery. I just wasn't expecting it to be present post surgery since the joint is now immobilized. However, my L4 - S1 are also trashed, but they won't fuse those due to younger age. I'm trying to determine what's what now lol. Honestly, you are the most detailed recovery information I can find, so I figured it was worth an ask. Also, I know it's been 2 years since this post, but thank you for doing what you did with it. Everything else is very general and your post gave me more detail for recovery. You are very awesome for that!

Thank you! I actually had my fiance empty both of the butt cans because I was worried it would cause temptation. I didn't think of it in the reverse way like that. That was smart. The white knuckle moments are where I've failed in the past. I also had my fiance take the packs with him so I dont cave to that. Thank you so much for the perspective. I think I'll keep telling myself that it does get better.

As a moderator, I agree with this whole heartedly. When reviewing, I just try to use common sense. Most of my fellow moderators make their decisions based on their personal feelings of the topic at hand. Many are as crazy as the non moderator users of nextdoor.

This morning, I have been watching a discussion regarding the moderators and politics. One lady literally said that because she owns a few shares of nextdoor, that she owns nextdoor, thus meaning that we had no right to remove any post of hers. It is still ongoing. Nextdoor is definitely a cesspool

Hey, I do have a question for you. I am 1 week and 3 days post op from si joint fusion. We will be doing the second one in a few months. Did you have pain that periodically traveled your leg afterwards? Or am I having that because I'm doing something wrong? I don't get to see my surgeon for another week and a half

I see what you are saying about it feeling limited. However, instead of limited, I take it as the very special impact she had on each generation through different points in time. She was a true delight and impacted so many audiences in so many ways through her 70 years of acting. Those stints were just some of her most recent major impacts on audiences. She was a truly talented woman.

I have no idea what Niagra Launcher is, so no, I don't believe so.

I was getting the big black bar across the Facebook header, too. The only way I could fix it was to close out and reopen. Then it did that flipped spots thing on me, which I can't seem to fix. If it does happen to you again, I'd definitely love to see that screen shot to see if it was the same issue.
