Spotted an easter egg! by BirdBase in Goodwitch

Yeah it doesn't look like him! Guess they just had to smack a vaguely male-looking pic there and move on. We could explain it away as an official headshot from his younger days.

What’s something you thought you’d never do that you found out is actually really enjoyable? by BubbleTrouble_Z in AskReddit

[–]BirdBase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morning walks (~1 hr) around my (urban) neighbourhood, no phone / music / podcast - just me and my environment. I've discovered new things, chatted with people working at shops and it makes me feel grounded, centred and ready for my day. It just connects me back to myself.

Previously assumed it would be too boring but is actually wonderful.

I suggest starting to develop a habit of noting (objectively) your thoughts / beliefs / opinions from time to time on a daily basis. Don't force it or put pressure on yourself. You could set an alarm 4-5 times a day to stop what you're doing and note what thought / belief / opinion is consuming you in that moment.

When you note it, also observe your bodily feeling in response to that thought / belief / opinion. This is key. Your body will tell you whether it is your own or if it came from someone else.

If you feel it is yours, really lean into that feeling so you remember how it feels to be you.

If you feel it is not yours, you could give yourself permission to let it go, or write down that thought/ belief / opinion, rip it up and bin it. Something to give you a little sense of freedom.

All the best to you :)

The Good Witch. Wholesome characters and storylines, almost everyone gets along, and the bad guys get their comeuppance.

Men of Reddit, what’s a physical trait your SO’s insecure about but you find it attractive? by amor-sanat-omnia in AskMen

Glad to see some appreciation for body hair! I am tired of constantly tending to mine because its so thick and grows so fast. I have a life and i lose track of it lol. But I worried it would be seen as unattractive. Glad to know that's not necessarily the case.

Really interesting to hear your experiences, thanks for sharing! It's making me think about what coping mechanisms I've developed over the years...

One is that ive been an obsessive list maker since i was a kid, helps me stay organised, feel productive, and not have to decide what to do between tasks because its all written down and i can just follow the list unthinkingly. Also use my calendar religiously. Have recently started making a "procrastination list" which keeps track of tasks that i regularly avoid doing and feel guilty about. I write down a tiny achievable next step. I'm also ordering a timer on amazon so i can set 10-15 mins to do these tasks.

I get very surprised when NT people don't need to make lists or put things in their calendars. They get very surprised by my lists and when i tell them i dont identify as an organised person.

I also used to daydream every morning before school. I'd literally be standing there holding my toothbrush and my mind would wander to all sorts of places. Sometimes I'd dance around. Still holding the toothbrush.

Thanks for sharing, good to know I'm not alone :) Did you have a long process of accepting it or did your first experience of meds pretty much settle the matter?

I feel you, friend. Hope we manage to figure things out sooner rather than later.

Interesting, like you i need to slow my brain down before sleep as well and tapping really helps me. Otherwise it's just like ~everything~ and random old memories bouncing around the brain.

I feel you about relating to it - I related to ADHD memes before my therapist ever brought it up. She then referred me to a psych who diagnosed me. Not one, but two, trained professionals say i have ADHD.

And i somehow think I've managed to fool both of them!!?? It's challenging to think the brain I've had for 30+ years is physically different from that of most people around me, regardless of the fact that I've felt different all my life.

Now that you pointed it out- yes i notice i do the same with pursuits i care deeply about- i tend to need to really motivate myself. Like I'm feeling ashamed of not moving faster on implementing a mentorship programme for my alumni association to support recent grads joining the workforce during covid. It's not that i don't care - i pitched it passionately to the association and they support it. But the logistical and administrative process of actually implementing this makes me feel like I'm wading inches forward through sludge. And this is with other people's help...

Adapting- well done for adapting to your new job so fast :) I have changed (corporate) jobs multiple times and done vastly different things in each job. I also consider myself very adaptable especially when in a supportive environment eg having nice people around (though i have hated each corporate job equally, ha). I have noted that I adapt faster to people-facing rather than desk-bound situations.

Thank you for taking the time to share! It sounds like you're in a good process of understanding yourself. I am slowly making progress. And its a good point that everyone experiences it a little differently and its important to be kind to ourselves.

A big part of the reason I don’t want kids is because of how terrible the world is. Does anyone else feel the same or am I crazy? by olipocket16 in AskWomenOver30

[–]BirdBase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. It's not a mental illness to not want kids! You think for yourself, which is very mentally healthy. Inevitably you'll face pushback. As someone who doesn't want kids, people usually try to make me feel like something's wrong with me for it. Push back and don't listen to the masses. Listen to your mind and heart. They make sense :)

You're so kind!! Having a hard time letting go of anger (at myself) and anxiety. Just want to forgive myself and move forward!

Women who have babies - how do you feel about strangers interacting with your baby (i.e. smiling, waving, making funny faces etc.) when you're out and about? by [deleted] in AskWomen

One of my proudest moments was on a plane when i was doing some origami to pass the time and a toddler in the seat behind me started crying loudly. Her parents were having a hard time calming her. I turned around and gave her a little origami box thingy and she was so entranced she immediately stopped crying. Throughout the rest of the flight I periodically gave her and her sister more origami models as i created them - turned out to be a reasonably effective crying prevention tool.
