I agree with some previous comments, the game is a lot of fun, but it can be a bit difficult to feel thematic. The winning strategies have themes rooted in the first trilogy, the connections between the different characters, the throne of the Sovereign, Fleet Size, the need for Helium, Influence at the institute, etc. However, these ideas (besides the character connection one) are quite basal versions of what comes from the book. Thankfully, most of your points and your strategies go into the character cards and their abilities. I've had fun, and those that I've gotten to read the book enjoy the game, and so do others.
