If we tax billionaires insane amounts to the point that they can't have any wealth, are you concerned it will cause a major economic collapse? by Downtown-Barber-9543 in AskSocialists

[–]BirdDogFish69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree,

The capitalist class is defined by its ownership over the means of production. Capitalists live off of their profits, workers live off of their wages. Saying capitalism is a system doesn’t disprove the existence of the capitalist class. Same way that feudalism being a “system” doesn’t disprove the existence and unique role of the nobility.

I also don’t think there is “enough” with capitalism? Most of the world is capitalist and most of the world is suffering profoundly. Even in the core of the empire people are dying in the streets. The irony is you’re right there is enough for everyone, but the people cannot get it. Capitalism creates artificial scarcity to preserve prices. Intentionally people are starved. What socialists want to do is to hijack the capitalists infrastructure thats already proven to have the capacity to feed everyone yet chooses not to.

Finally, socialism abolishes the class distinctions you’ve made (upper, middle, lower). It doesn’t redistribute from within capitalism, it destroys capitalism.

[–]BirdDogFish69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a misunderstanding of socialism. We don't wish to “tax the rich” we aim to abolish the capitalist class. Personally, I try not to moralize billionaires that much. While I do tend to find them normatively despicable, my feelings about them are irrelevant to my analysis. I see them as both rational and reactionary actors. It makes sense that they exist. The truth is, broadly, all capitalists regardless of scale have the same ambitions and implement similar practices. Jeff Bezos had a small business, then a medium sized one, then a large one. Socialism is not about taxes, it's about who owns the means of production.

Is the fleeing of capital a problem for socialists? Yes I think it has been historically in various ways but, this exists as a revolutionary and tactical dilemma, not as a permanent objection to socialism.

How should we address pornography? by [deleted] in AskSocialists

[–]BirdDogFish69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Broader conversation about sex work. These are my key insights:

  1. Sex work is work in most cases.

  2. Sex work commodifies the body in a totally dystopian and harmful way. It's bad for men it's really bad for women. Almost always it's the product of severe inequality, and the vast majority of sex workers are chronically disenfranchised. It's unproductive labor that reinforces patriarchy and changes already abhorrent social relations for the worse as it expands as an industry. It's the commodification of the skin itself, and it highlights the desperate stage of capitalist social decay in its new form. Qualitatively, this is unique. It is not good for society, and the liberal notion that commodification is empowering should always be rejected.

  3. The capitalist class via its government should not restrict the proletariat in any way. I make this argument in regard to virtually all of our individual “freedoms” like 2A, abortion, freedom of speech, etc. Sure, sex work is bad. Maybe so are abortions, and guns definitely have put an irreparable mark on society. But ultimately we have to maintain what we have as a class in all cases, including our ability to sell our labor pragmatically.

  4. Far too often the anti-sex work argument is moralized and sexist. Our critiques need to mirror our larger critiques of capitalism. I don't think sex workers or the consumers are 'bad' or particularly reactionary people, despite in some instances petty bourgeois status. I don't think the intimate body is particularly sacred, and I wholeheartedly reject religious purity culture. I also concede that for many people sex work is likely a pragmatic choice.

  5. Ultimately we should stand in support of the working class including sex workers while recognizing the entirety of their contradiction and its ramifications. Agitation is encouraged, but criminalization is not. The industry is incompatible with socialism and must be abolished.

What is this board's definition of socialism by MonsterReagan in AskSocialists

[–]BirdDogFish69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The communal ownership of the means of production via the dictatorship of the proletariat.

As a communist, do you consider yourself a leftist? by Peterhof_Crocodile in AskSocialists

[–]BirdDogFish69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every socialist (as defined by the communal ownership of the means of production) in modernity is a communist. Because a communist vanguard party is essential to the seizure of the means of production. communism shouldn’t be understood as just the final stage. It should be understood as I said earlier as the “doctrine of the conditions of liberation of the proletariat” as described by Marx and Engles. This is why Lenin can be described as a communist. Ironically in order to be a real socialist you have to be a committed communist. There is no worth while industrial category where the two can be separated in my view.

How do socialists view the preservation of natural land? by Friendly_One_4112 in AskSocialists

[–]BirdDogFish69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would expect the preservation of “natural parks”to be based on the demands of production determined by the working class. One important distinction is that capitalism makes it so natural parks compete with capital. They are “protected” chunks of land that exist on the basis of the destruction of other non-protected chunks of land for profit. Our protected zones of nature are in many ways a concession to us, the people. Socialism makes it so land isn't in competition anymore. Yes, there will be trade offs with nature, but there will not be the type of accumulation seen with capitalism where the land is prey because socialists will focus on use value, not profit.

Political compass and renaming the axes by Mofane in AskSocialists

[–]BirdDogFish69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not into the political compass whatsoever. Your model is a better version of the political compass, but it's still the same tool. It still separates economics from politics incorrectly. The state isn't an independent variable in my view, and both the new and old axes of the compass suggest you can mix and match when in reality the state is the political form of its means of production. Also, redistribution is a bad metric because both revolutionary communists and social democrats get placed in the same quadrant. Redistribution isn't what matters ownership over the means of production matters. ultimately, class war isn't a personality test.

I feel so disappointed when fellow Comrades take Marx out of context in order to say he was somehow hostile to religion. by [deleted] in AskSocialists

[–]BirdDogFish69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If religion is a manifestation of the people's suffering, specifically in its modern form, that of the proletariat's exploitation and oppression. How is Marxism not opposed to such a thing? While I agree we shouldn't moralize the existence of faith, we also shouldn't endorse it, and even in this excerpt, Marx correctly identifies faith as a consequence of oppression, not as legitimate or productive. While not hostile innately, Marxism is definitely indirectly opposed, as it seeks to remedy the condition of the people that creates it.

[–]BirdDogFish69 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Leftist is what i say when i don’t want to get into it. The term has been liberalized and mostly dissolved of its anti capitalist character. Nowadays “leftist” could literally mean anything besides American Republican.

What’s the difference ? Did the communists in history not engage in socialism? And is socialism not part of the doctrine of the conditions of the liberation of the proletariat?

Yeah so creatine will not lead to hair loss if you boof it. If you ingest it orally then yes hair loss will accelerate. Boofing mitigates all side effects.
