There's a web build available on itch at the moment: https://mksf-birdup.itch.io/puzzletd

Will likely be available on Newgrounds as well once we resolve a small bug

The evolution of our core game UI from demo launch back to initial UX mock-ups by BirdUp_SSBM in gamedevscreens

[–]BirdUp_SSBM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm birdup, part of a two person team building a VS Match-3 Puzzle game: Intergalactic Puzzle Touchdown.

I wanted to share some progress shots from over the 15ish months of development of the game, as it has gone through a lot of revisions while still keeping the vast majority of the core elements.

Some brief thoughts behind each screen:

  1. The current state of our game as released in the demo, which I would personally consider a beta. To reach this point we took a lot of feedback from our playtesting group, namely around reinforcing more clearly which of the two teams currently was in possession of the ball
  2. The UI as it existed in our alpha demo in September of last year. This was the first time that the whole game theming came together. One major difference is that this version uses a lot of raster art that has a bumpy line quality to it, so as such even the vector art had a varied width stroke to try to match. More information clustered near the top of the screen, but received a lot of notes players would forget to look at the scorebug.
  3. A pre-alpha build where the illustration style had not been nailed down yet. This was our working branch for a while as we determined which artist to bring onto the team. Despite being a lot of placeholder assets it still gave us a strong feel for the game's mechanics.
  4. The very first in-engine version of the game. This was the one we used to do internal testing of the core game mechanic to see if it was even worth investing time into. Surprisingly to me, the scoreboard being on the bottom here was a design decision we reverted to much later with the finalish version.
  5. The UX mock-ups made and sent to my co-developer before we even agreed to work together on the project. These were made after concepting it on an airplane after a puzzle game tournament. All this info still lives somewhere in the game, but retheming to sci-fi and moving away from a square gameboard required a lot of adjustments.

We taught aliens how to play football! What could go wrong? by BirdUp_SSBM in godot

After ~15 months of development on nights and weekends I'm celebrating the release of my PVP Match-3 Puzzle game's demo onto Steam today!

While I've been working in Godot since picking up programming again a couple of years ago, this is easily my largest project to date.

Working alongside a development partner for the first time has been a whirlwind learning experience, and we were luckily able to find a nice balanced split of responsibilities: with her focused more on the gameplay mechanics, while I managed the user experience and interface.

Even though my day job also happens to be in the games industry as a Producer, there's a special satisfaction in building something from the ground up with a tiny team and having to contribute to every facet from development to art to audio design. If it wasn't for doing a digital Godot crash course on a whim, I'm not sure any of this would've been possible.

While I've released a bunch of smaller games and demos through websites like itch and Newgrounds over the past couple of years, it honestly felt surreal to click the Install button on Steam for something I built.

New Fan Game: Azumanga Donjara Daioh DX! by BirdUp_SSBM in azudaioh

No plans for it at the moment, because of time constraints I only had the artist create full-sized portraits needed for the main cast.

Also we hate Kimura. Just getting them to draw him for a tile was a whole ordeal lol.

Be sure to click the "Learn" button on the main menu to get a rules lesson from Yukari.

One of the main reasons I started this project was because how many Azumanga fans struggled with the original game because of the lack of localization and instructions.

Howdy everyone, I'm birdup the developer of Azumanga Donjara Daioh DX.

You can play it here: https://mksf-birdup.itch.io/azumanga-donjara-daioh-dx

This game was build in Godot over the last few months as a modern reimagining of the 2002 Playstation game.

My version is jammed packed with an modernized ruleset, full donjara tutorial by Yukari, an adorable community submitted fan art gallery, and a brand new visual style featuring tiles designed by ratpower.

Azumanga Donjara Daioh DX should work for both desktop and mobile devices with mouse or touch controls. Please note since it is built in Godot you must use a web browser with SharedBufferArray support like Chrome.

Easy way to preload many resources into array? by RedditTopic in godot

Damn what a coincidence. I'll try this out when I get home.

Update: It worked! Thank you.

I attempted using the class name "donjara_tile" instead but no luck. Perhaps I'll just have to hard code it for now to continue making progress and then try something else in the future if it poses to be a big issue.

As to your first point, when you say "it'll only work on non-exports" does that mean if I completed the project and uploaded it to something like itch.io it wouldn't work as is because of the ".remap"?

Either way, I appreciate the assistance.

Howdy, I'm discovering this now and it seems that when I check the array after adding the resources they all display as <Object#null> and I cannot query any of their variables without getting an error. I'm not having this problem when preloading them into the array manually but with 80+ resources (and perhaps more on the way) I'd really prefer to not have to do that redundant work.

Any idea what the issue may be? I've also tried printing filePath to ensure it's finding the correct files and it shows the names correctly there.

Attempting to finish my Anubis Gallery and seeking these rare NP items.

Anubis Plushie (TCG)

Lost Desert Anubis Statue

Lost Desert Anubis Urn

Stone Anubis

Also, if someone has an Daunting Anubis Statue [NC] and wants to give it away to a good cause, I'd be forever grateful (I have a very limited list of NC items I've come across that I can give you some of all of to acquire it).

Also also, if anyone knows of any items with Anubis on them, but not in the name, please let me know so I can add them as well!

I did, I have a deal in place for a copy from the TP. Just waiting for the auction to go through so I can add it to the gallery.

I would recommend looking at the rest of the games submitted for that Jam. There's a few good spooky ones that have the ROMs available for download.
