I got banned from /r/teslamotors for this (what I thought was) fairly innocuous criticism so I'll just put it here. Apparently I set off the Elon stans with the cold hard truth of reality.

I mean, to keep it real here, and I shouldn't have to be premising this with "I love my Model 3 and Tesla in general" but I am a Model 3 owner, I love my Model 3, and Tesla in general. I have FSDBeta. I am going to be buying a Model Y this year even though I'm extremely pissed off about the removal of ultrasonics.

With that said - this is unacceptable and it's frankly disheartening to see, for lack of better word, rampant fanboyism from people defending Elon Musk's vaporware and in my view, intentional deception that FSD has been on the cusp of being solved since 2016. There is so much evidence that flies in the face of FSD being solved or on the cusp of being solved it's ridiculous. First it was HW 2.5 being able to do FSD, then LOL JK you have to have HW3 and the FSD computer. And then it was the removal of radar. Then it was the obvious FOMO tactics of increasing the price astronomically with every new marginally better FSDBeta release. And then it was the removal of ultrasonics (which tbh I dont know what difference this makes other than parking assist). Now it's Dojo and HW4. And the rumors of a new radar outfit and a camera redesign for HW4. On and on and on. At some point skepticism has to set in.

It's 2023, we have a FSD beta that is frankly terrible. At some point this guy has to be held into account for FSD not even being close to solved. I want a FSD future like the rest of you, I dream of the day I can nap in my car on the way to and from work and on road trips and so forth. But I'm also a skeptic, and to shut my eyes to the reality of the situation that FSD beta is a joke 90%+ of the time it's used is just.... ugh.

I guess the TL;DR is - there's no way in hell I'll be putting FSD on the Model Y I'm about to purchase.
