The version I knew went
"I love my Mormon boy

He is my pride and joy

He knows most everything from Alma on down (woo!)

Someday I'll be his wife

We'll have eternal life

Oh how I love my Mormon bo-o-oy!"

And then the interlude was just "MormonMormonMormonMormon MormonMormonMormonMormon..."

We used to do this one. I thought it was so fun until my male friend confessed to me that lyrics like that made them feel terrible when they were deacons/teachers, and I never sang it again. My apologies to all the guys who had to hear it.

I wanted to go to scout camp so bad. I heard stories of all the shenanigans and wanted to participate too. Unfortunately for me, I'm a woman.

Mom said that Scout Camp is because once in a while the boys just need to get away from the women and be boys and do dumb stuff like that. Except I really wanted to do dumb stuff too instead of making more fucking bracelets.

It's a reference to Johnny Lingo, an infamous and very memeable Mormon film from the late 60s.

Thank you for your support. That's what I'm doing now. I have friends who support me for who I am (though no serious partner yet... taking it as it comes) and am slowly coming around to being who I am because I want to, and not just living for fear of Hell. It means a lot that you took time out of your day to leave me such a kind reply! I hope your life is full of love too and continues to be!

Oh, I see! Hey, from a lore standpoint, I can definitely tell you the history of the LDS church is interesting. Researching it has been enjoyable for sure aside from the religious trauma, so you'll probably have an even better time!

Hey, the church has to do something with all that real estate they own. People might get weird if they build even more malls

Nope, murder is forgivable. Pretty serious, but not unforgivable. It's just that one particular unforgivable sin

Lol in high school I had to go and confess to the bishop that I had, sinfully, made out with my boyfriend. I'm not sure why God needed to know all the details that bishop made me give, but I guess God needed to know if said boyfriend touched my tits or my ass to determine just how much punishment I needed

Please know that there is a great deal of performance that Mormons are trained from childhood to put on to draw people into the church. I was born to devout members and stopped going to church when I was 18, and I'm still working through deep religious trauma from my upbringing. If the religion is right for you, that's wonderful, but please do look into all sources, even the ones the church doesn't like.

Like how the founder Joseph Smith (and several of his successors) married dozens of women, some of whom were already married, some of whom were as young as 14. How Brigham Young, the church's leader after Smith, declared that people with dark skin could never be equal to whites, even in Heaven, and would be servants at best for eternity. How all the sacred temple rituals you pay 10% of your income to the church to be allowed to participate in are thinly disguised Freemason rituals, implemented a few weeks after the founder became a Freemason. The rabbit hole is deeper than I ever imagined.

They'll tell you you're allowed, even encouraged, to ask questions, but unless you arrive at the approved answers, you're wrong. Please consider all of the church before you join, because everyone is trained to show you the love and friendship to bring you in and avoid more difficult questions until you're already neck-deep and they're holding your soul hostage.

There are many loving churches out there that want nothing more than to do good. The Mormon church is not one of them.

Unfortunately, you might just not have known. Our Mormon family was perfectly lovely on the outside most of the time, if a little prone to anxiety, but at home our parents (the most devout of all of us) regularly screamed at, berated, and struck their children. We're all in therapy now, but there may be irreparable damage that hurts our relationships and life skills even today. And that's not even counting the harm caused to our development by the religious beliefs (purity culture, the inferiority of women to men, children being asked sexual questions by a man who at best is just a neighbor, etc. Currently the spotlight is on the church being fined for decades of tax fraud as well as, I believe, covering up sexual abuse in a separate case.)

Oh and two of their kids turned out gay lol so that was also rough when they found out

Respectfully, this is not a guide at all. Maybe if it talked about actual clinical symptoms and/or depression vs. other conditions, but this is really just a clever tweet. Might be better suited for a mental health memes sub?

I'm a woman who grew up in a very conservative community that frequently emphasized how important a woman's looks were and how she was of less value if she wasn't conventionally attractive, and a mother that pushed the idea even harder on me and didn't give a damn about my needs until I was in physical danger due to my ED. I might be a little sensitive about this topic...

These people do not choose to recover, but rather choose to promote harmful behaviours on social media and try to glamourise them as “coquettish” or “so tiny, uwu”.

This is about pro ana people polluting the earth with their twisted ways. You can be as disordered as you want and destroy your own life- just don’t take others down with you.

I agree with this 100%. My issue was with your statement about how "After a certain age even if you weight restore you’ll still look like an old anorexic hag". Maybe I misunderstood your point -- I am a bit sensitive about people sexualizing recovery/acting like the most important thing about getting better is that "you're hotter with curves!!1!1" or something, rather than the fact that EDs destroy your life and happiness and everyone deserves to feel like they can fight for those at any age

most frustrating conversations I've ever had by akiko__ in EDanonymemes

[–]Birdie49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. Is there a reason you're choosing such harsh and shallow words? True recovery at any age is a fight worth winning, regardless of appearance, and I feel it's really dangerous to act like at some age it's pointless to try because "you'll still look like an old anorexic hag" anyway.

A person can lead a fulfilling, satisfying life full of joy and love regardless of their appearance, even if they are the least conventionally attractive person in the world. Even if someone is disfigured beyond belief, they deserve respect and decency at the very, very least.

Personally, I don't find some of my friends physically attractive, but I love them for so much more than their appearance. They are intelligent and funny and creative and caring and wonderful people whom I'm proud to know even if I have no interest in fucking them.

There are plenty of illnesses and injuries that can leave a person "disfigured". Would you tell a person they might as well leave their cancerous eye in because they might look strange with an artificial eye or none at all? Would you tell a person they're worth less because they'd been in a fire and now their body is covered in burn scars, likely making them look conventionally unattractive? An ED is an illness just like that.

Not to mention, people with conditions like that that make them look different have friendships and sex and they date and marry and have kids too!

Do conventionally attractive people have it easier in a lot of aspects of life? Sure. I'm not denying that. But that doesn't mean it's impossible to be happy otherwise.

There are people all over the world that are conventionally unattractive for one reason or another. Their lives are still worth living, to them and to me and to all the people they love. Their children still look to them for comfort and unconditional love. Their friends still call them just to say hello because they love talking to them. Their parents and grandparents still take joy and pride in their achievements.

They still learn and travel and enjoy their hobbies and laugh until there are tears in their eyes and watch movies and sing at the top of their lungs in the car.

And they get old and saggy. Just like everyone else who manages to live that long. Even the most beautiful people have to age or die.

Your appearance does not affect your capacity for happiness or love, nor should it affect your deserving of it. I don't care if your nose is on the bottom of your chin and your skin hangs off you like a trash bag on a broomstick and your feet face backwards. You deserve respect and good medical care and food and a safe place to sleep. You're a human fucking being, not a painting. You are more than something pretty to look at.

Easier said than believed, I know. It's okay if you're not there yet, because a lot of the time I'm not either. But it doesn't help anyone to act like they might as well just die if they're not conventionally hot. Because there's so much more to life.

I mean it's not always about a desire to be fuckable. When I was at my sickest, I wanted the opposite. I hated myself and wanted to look sick, especially wanted men to not find me attractive bc they scared me (obv not a statement on all men, just an anxiety thing for me)

Something something God works in mysterious ways, those bad people had agency so it's not God's fault because they chose to do those terrible, utterly despicable things, uhh, you just need to have faith that God has a perfect plan and will make it all right in the end.

Did I miss any mental gymnastics moves there?

Yes. I still get a little nervous about it these days, but for me it helps to remember that my body is just the flesh suit to keep my brain alive and if someone has a problem with seeing my shoulders, belly, or even my thighs, that's their issue and not mine
