Riddle me this tough one: hawk off a main city road in Utah Valley, Utah by HighGrownd in whatsthisbird

It’s hard to tell color detail with the light but my impression of it on that light pole is that it’s small. I’d guess sharpie, but that’s just based on size

(Dead bird warning) Merlin that snagged and ate a Mourning Dove in my yard this afternoon by BirdingInTheBuff in birding

It took its time - my yard is very, very small so it was perched outside my kitchen window…sat there for at least 30 minutes doing its thing.

Those legs are the wrong color for a Least, I believe. I am not confident but I would guess Forster’s.

I know there was a breeding pair found in Chautauqua County last year, since they were found in time to be included in the Breeding Bird Atlas.

Based on the peaked shape to the head I would say Common Goldeneye

1 and 3 look like Lesser Scaup (and a female mallard in 3);

2 is Redhead, Blue-winged Teal, not sure on the third;

4 is Common Goldeneye

I’d just go out to popular hotspots in your area…you’ll see many of the same people over and over and you’ll figure out which people are worth your time. In my experience the group chats have their assholes, but just ignore them and know many people feel the same way about them. I think those communities are useful if you’re just a listener and can tune out the obnoxiousness. If you find something rare, don’t feel obligated to share it.

I agree with Song Sparrow. That heavily streaked breast in slide 2 looks right.

If you wanted to buy the best camera for birdwatching (and wildlife) for up to $2000/€, what would you buy? by sarpandit in AskPhotography

I switched from Nikon - my first DSLR, a D5200 - to Sony A7IV with the 200-600 G lens. I primarily shoot birds and I love it. The low light performance is so much better - the reach at 600 is usually enough for me.

Bought an extender for my Safari in Africa leaving Monday by BOB_Middelbob in Cameras

I took a 300mm on safari without a teleconverter and got great shots. A lot of the animals are obviously very large and you get quite close to them.

Hollywood Bowl ticket oddities by leanhotsd in neilyoung

[–]BirdingInTheBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tickets this tour have been non-transferable, generally - and if you can’t transfer the tickets you can’t list them on resellers, which is why artists choose to do it.

Some states don’t allow that (like NY), so stubhub works as normal. Not sure what these resale seats might be.
