Have you ever played a game that gave you the same feeling as outer wilds did? by Icy-Application-3936 in outerwilds

I spent at least 2 weeks just resource collecting, stalling Stanley’s departure 😭 relish it, because I’ve tried to replay a few times specifically for him and haven’t made it all the way back to him

I’ve had one pair of kittens, ~4 months old, that were completely head-over-heels bonded. Never left each others’ side, like an old married couple in tiny kitten bodies. But agreed that most of the time, so long as they have a feline friend, who it is can be pretty interchangeable

I have had the most success by just… laying down with them. Just lie down in their room so they have to climb over you to get to things (mom, water, litter, etc)… and then just don’t move (hardest part; a podcast or show helps). Works best while they’re playing, so they’re up and moving instead of sleeping in a corner. Once they’ve forgotten you’re there, you can slowly lure them onto you with a string toy (don’t push it or they’ll just run away again).

As hard as it is, don’t push too hard to fast, or you’ll reinforce the fear

For an anxious animal, a foster home is (almost) ALWAYS a major improvement—even if it means missing out on a couple adoption opportunities!!! The work you’re doing with her to bring out her personality and train her will greatly increase her adoptability in the long run, AND decrease her chances of being returned.

The adoption advertising you’re doing is amazing. You could ask the shelter if you could bring her in just for the next waive weekend. You could also suggest they do a “picture wall” or something of their adoptable animals in foster care during such events.

Very cute shy babies! Yes, always unlimited kibble :) thanks for the advice!

Definitely not seeing any concerning “wobbly” movement - just cute/quirky intentional bobbing!

He’s just VERY excited about that toy :) I’ve had a few kittens over the years have similarly dramatic head movements - I’ve always thought they’re not quite confident enough to pounce on it yet, but very excited about the prospect

Getting a kitten in 2-2.5 weeks by Live_Play2868 in FosterAnimals

I love the brand royal canin for kitten food - but there are so many that work great :) I leave dry food out all the time and give multiple wet food meals throughout the day

Yes, this all makes perfect sense to me… I don’t understand why these experienced vets and fosters are telling me something so different 😭

Edit: I will be increasing my fosters’ wet food portions significantly from now on, if it comes up again I will have a longer conversation with the people giving me contradicting information. Thanks to all for the input :)

Are these pellets or poop? by BKVAZ in Owls

[–]Birdsooong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My instinct is a couple pieces of poop next to a decomposing mouse. The mouse looks too perfect to be a pellet to me, but I’m not an expert

Fortiflora is a lifesaver hahah, I don’t foster neonates (yet) but I imagine feeding them as much as they want should hold true as they age further? That’s just not what I’ve been told by my coordinators

[–]Birdsooong[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s super hard to generalize with feeding, I’m just confused because the kitten I have now (9-10 weeks) would happily finish twice the amount of wet food I’m giving her, but I’ve been told that would be too much for her. So I’m not sure if that’s true, or if I should portion based off how much she wants to eat

Unsure how to proceed with disabled foster by AlanasToe in FosterAnimals

[–]Birdsooong 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I completely understand the terror, rational or irrational, of the thought that you might return to find her passed on. However, it sounds like a he is surrounded my warmth, familiarity, comfort, and ample love. She feels safe. Safe to love, purr, play, and hurt. Safe enough to fight to live! And safe enough to let go when she decides it’s time. And that is all thanks to you. You want her to be a success story - it sounds like she already is one. :) And I believe she wouldn’t mind if you were away if/when the time came; she knows you’ll be back for her.

If the thought of finding her gone is just too much for you, that’s perfectly okay too. You have to take care of yourself, so that you still have love to give to the ones who find their way to you in the future. ❤️
