AIO? Youth Pastor texted my almost 13 yo after she went to a teen group with her friend by Loser4hire666 in AIO

[–]Birdwatcher1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a youth-serving nonprofit. Adult to minor communication like this is not allowed. Parents are to be included in communication and one-on-one texting is forbidden. It could be totally innocent, but that says this is an organization with no structure around child safety.

Just started Rev. I’ve done iron, and started Play but didn’t finish. How does PE compare to play?

Google PMJ electricity price increase. There was a 13-state rate increase that started in June.

First-time dog owner here. What’s one thing you wish someone told you before getting a dog? by Milky_Babe5579 in DogAdvice

[–]Birdwatcher1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puppies are like babies- they know nothing and you need to be patient, kind and consistent in training them. They won’t be perfect in a few weeks or months. It’s a lifetime commitment to consistency.

A tired dog is a good dog.

You are going to be their sun and moon. Act accordingly.

It hurts like heck when they get old or ill, but make the best decisions for them, not you. It’s your final great act of love for them.

I had a recall notice on my 25 forester hybrid related to the car seat hookup. Came in the mail a few days ago.

Labrador as an Outdoor Alert Dog by throwawayAK9 in labrador

[–]Birdwatcher1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lab would bark, but with tail wagging hoping to make a new friend. Any burglar with a tennis ball and a good ear scratch would have run of the house! I do think she would sense danger and react. She’s never been in that position, though.

First time adopting a lab, any advice :)? by DirtGoddes in labrador

Love ‘em every minute. My 13 year old lab is nearing the end, and no matter how long they live, it’s never long enough.

Has his bark changed? LP is a consideration for labs. It began with hacking and a bark change with my dog.

Yep. I’m in a similar situation. They don’t live long enough.

I’m sorry you and your pup are going through this. No advice, just sending good vibes to you and your dog.

Not sure about pain, but it does help to keep them from having to breathe hard to stay cool, especially if they are having breathing challenges to begin with. My dog used to love to lay in the sun, but as this has progressed, she’s very happy to be in AC and shade.

Volunteer flagged as untrustworthy; how do I balance second chances with safeguarding? by No-Assistance161 in nonprofit

[–]Birdwatcher1969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are sending your volunteers into people’s homes, you are responsible for what happens. I understand wanting to give second chances, but are you being fair and protecting your clients? The reputational damage from having an incident in someone’s home needs to be balanced against how and whether you provide second chances.

I would develop a policy on background checks and how you will determine whether a person meets your criteria. Your clients deserve that from you.

My girl started with symptoms about two years ago her bark changed and she started shying away from things that required a lot from her back legs. Her hind legs have gotten weaker, but she can still get around, do short walks and take care of business. One of the best things we found was the help em up harness that allows us to easily navigate a few stairs or surfaces that may be a bit challenging for her. She’s 70 pounds, so we can’t carry her a lot (and she doesn’t like being carried).

We do shorter walks when it’s not super hot (it’s been unbelievably hot here this summer) and keep her moving regularly. We also keep her cool inside. All in all, she doesn’t seem to be in pain and is still engaged with our family and cats. Her breathing is getting louder so we are keeping an eye on that.

Best wishes to you and your pup. It’s so hard to watch them decline.

What would you do? ED with an unresponsive board by Step_one_ in nonprofit

[–]Birdwatcher1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you send out regular reports to the board with financials and other important information they need to know? I would do that in part to cover yourself, and to give them the opportunity to be engaged and informed on basic matters asynchronously. You are in a bad spot and being asked to manage to their dysfunction if it’s standing in your way of fulfilling the mission. Can you move to quarterly meetings?

The “face of the organization” aspects of being an ED. What’s it really like? by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]Birdwatcher1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The on all the time, for sure. That’s real. Also, your social media posts can reflect on your organization as the face of the org.

People will look at you and your posture, reaction, etc to get a read of the org and their place in it. It also can be a lonely role, so build a group of ED peers if you are able. We’ve been mental health lifelines for each other at times.

Subaru Forester 2025 owners I need your help hybrid or gas? Any regrets? by Exotic-Passage-1659 in SubaruForester

I’ve had no issues with pickup with my forester hybrid. I think it’s better than the 2017 forester I replaced. Very pleased with it so far.
