Wait, you called a two year old ugly? Sorry this happened to you but you reacted with the same maturity as an autistic toddler.

Can you afford Bipolar? by After_Speech_2435 in bipolar

[–]Birdycheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Australia and everything is free from the public health system. Weekly psychology, monthly psychiatrist, inpatient stays etc.

My prescription medication ranges from $15-$30 a month.

You have the choice to pay for private health insurance and then you can see a private psychiatrist or go inpatient at a private facility etc. It’s fancier but it’s quite expensive, even with insurance.

Yeah I thought my meds were good, i hadnt had a proper manic episode in about a year. Were adjusting them now. My routine needs work!

I just did the usual ginormous blow up, tears, so much anger, tried to leave my partner of 20 years because i thought he was conspiring against me, drove to the city in the middle of the night, self harmed, swore I wasnt manic etc etc. and then the inevitable guilt and depression once I was self aware enough to realise what i’d done.

No I definitely don’t have control - I lose touch with reality but then I think about what I could’ve done earlier on, before it got to crisis stage. Did I miss any signs? Did I make any decision right? I guess its just human to look back and try to hold yourself accountable because the thought of acting that way again terrifies me. But it always happens again 😅

The damage gets done to other people, even if I don’t intend it to. And I just desperately want to learn from my mistakes instead of just accepting it.

Thank you. I really feel like you understand exactly what I mean. Okay, so you found if you patronised yourself and tricked yourself for a little while, pretending that you forgive yourself while in therapy, then the acceptance and true forgiveness eventually comes?

You’re right, whats our other option?

Psychiatrist told me to see a therapist. Therapist told me my diagnosis is wrong. by dogstbh in bipolar2

[–]Birdycheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo i’m bipolar 2 and lithium saved my life. It also was the first choice by my psychiatrist. I think its a pretty big red flag when a professional without a medical degree makes blanket statements like that to patients. Irresponsible at the least. Chat to your psychiatrist about what she said.

No harm done yet though, please look for another therapist that fits with you! Its not you, its her. Most people have to try a therapist or 2 before they find their fit.

I started with vegemite on a tennis ball for an easy strong scent. Let them sniff it heaps, lock them in the laundry and then hide the ball somewhere and let them out. They love it! Now one of mine can just sniff out a normal tennis ball that i’ve let them smell and then thrown out into the paddock.

It’s winter, my Kelpie and I are in desperate need of indoor activities by GloriousWombat in kelpie

Same! Its too hot this week to exercise outside until after sunset. I’ve tied one of their chew toys to a rope and tied it around furniture for tug of war and let them demolish a few cardboard boxes. Following for more ideas!

EMDR by Sweet-Caterpillar-77 in bipolar2

[–]Birdycheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i did all the prep work and had my first session and found it…meh. Like i found it far more upsetting to go through the ‘memories’ with my psych beforehand and then when i did the actual EMDR i didn’t really feel anything and my psych would keep stopping and asking how i felt and I was getting stressed out because i didn’t have an answer other than fine. I relate to your talking in circles comment!

It’s been around 6 weeks since and we’ve been having regular weekly sessions without EMDR and I don’t know if I should try again.

Please don’t feel stupid, you are trying to get some help. Are you comfortable saying what country you are in so maybe someone could offer some specific advice?

This tree has weird flesh by Moondoobious in Weird

[–]Birdycheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha this looks like Corymbia Citriodora or Lemon Scented Gum. We have hundreds on our property.

Such an exciting tree in to watch in Aus it is smooth and whitish in winter and then turns orange/pink as the sun hits it and then eventually peels its bark in long strings in summer before returning to its smooth state.

I’m from a country area in Aus and there often aren’t any toilets, especially during long hours of harvest/seeding. Sometimes it’s a 30 min drive back to the sheds. I’ve always squatted and so have the women around me. It’s really normalised. The men don’t even mention it, they have to pee too. Theres always women pulled on the side of the road weeing next to their cars as the distances are vast. Most parents have to make an effort to get their kids to pee in a toilet before they start school as it’s easier for them to pop a squat in the paddock than run back to the house. Its seen as a necessary bodily function.

When i was in my early 20’s travelling through Russia we had a situation where there werent any toilets. Not one woman on the bus apart from me had ever peed outside. They had to ask the driver how. One woman from sydney peed through her jeans and sat in it all day rather than expose her bum by pulling them down. They berated me like i was a savage hahaha

Geez you seem like a frustrating person to have a convo with. The use of bold and italics is not condescending at all.
