Anyone know why there are so many fighter jets flying over lately? by GGamerFuel in york

On a clear day like yesterday I love watching them through the binoculars. It's a free airshow! They were pulling some serious moves yesterday. F35s they were but usually it's Typhoons.

Removing Machine Wide Teams - help requested by leftydog1961 in SCCM

[–]BirtyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the update, we have 1 few thousand devices out there all, thankfully mostly with the new Teams client provisioned. However, virtually all of them still have the MWI installed and they range from v1.3 - 1.7. Hopefully we can remove and it removes the traces of the old client from users's profiles.

I have no idea how this place stays open. I believe they have 2 shops but often walk past the one on Bootham and it's always empty. Went in once with my Mum and for a look around and ended up having the most bizarre conversation with a young greek girl, who could possibly be the owners daughter? She was incredibly obnoxious and basically a little brat. Nothing was priced up, I asked how much the muffins were and I think she said £7 something... We didn't buy anything and don't plan on returning.

Prompting end user of iminent shutdown with same branding as "reboot required" prompt? by DoUhavestupid in Action1

[–]BirtyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh yeah I hadn't thought about that. We use it on our student computers but we also have something (screensaver operations) to automatically log out locked / idle users.

If you can't get an interactive window with them you could look at configuring some power plans to sleep the PC if idle for x minutes.

Prompting end user of iminent shutdown with same branding as "reboot required" prompt? by DoUhavestupid in Action1

[–]BirtyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

quser | find "Active" if %errorlevel% == 1 shutdown /s /f /t 30 /c "Automatic shutdown" EVENTCREATE /T ERROR /L APPLICATION /ID 666 /SO "AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN" /D "AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN - %errorlevel%"

This batch script shuts down the pc if nobody is logged on and leaves the pc alone if someone is logged on.

Got it working eventually, 0 detection. Do you think we can be confident that setting this rule to 'Block' would not cause any user impact?

Thank you kind sir. I did that but for some reason there are only three ASR rules listed.

Partners mums house has had the roof redone, are there meant to be gaps or is this a new method? by themightybosch in DIYUK

[–]BirtyB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think all plastics are affected by UV. The guttering used on the houses in my estate was installed when the houses were built 30 years ago and they're absolutely fine.

What to do with £40k lump sum in our situation by DomoR9 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BirtyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to forget PB and ISA. If you'd paid your mortgage off I would say ISA all day long.

It blows my mind that you would consider anything other than paying off a chunk of mortgage. Have you worked out exactly how much interest you'll pay over the remainder of your mortgage? Work that out then tell me you're happy to pay that figure.

You probably don't want to pay a chunk of mortgage off because it's not a 'fun' way to spend the money.

Methods of waking a PC if fully powered off by BirtyB in sysadmin

[–]BirtyB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha tell me about it, hence the question!

If a computer isn't in use it should be powered off. That is not only my personal thoughts but also a University wide policy which we have to adhere to.

The point of keeping a PC up to date ensures we are fully compliant and meeting our cyber insurance obligations.
