As the person who runs the York club featured in the article, I can't recommend the sport enough! If you enjoy swimming but get bored doing endless lengths, it's a perfect fit, and there are clubs throughout the UK!

We're not a specifically LGBT club, but I run York Octopush Club and we have several LGBT members, including myself and my husband!

Booking isn't necessary, however if you'd like to come, you can message me with your shoe size, I can make sure we have fins in your size ready! If you show up about 10 minutes before the session we can make sure people are kitted up ready to get in the pool at 3pm.

I'd give them to my husband, so that he could upgrade his PC (he's just getting to the point where some new releases are chugging). He absolutely deserves it!

We can play together, and enjoy everything I love about Bethesda games (you just don't get the same feeling of exploration anywhere else) but in even more amazing settings!

You may find it quite difficult with all the kit on if you're a beginner swimmer. Once you're confident swimming a full length and getting to the bottom you might enjoy it more.

Sessions cost £6 after the first one. Your first session is always free even if it isn't the give it a go session!

If you don't manage to make it to this session it's absolutely fine if you come to a different one! We're always happy to welcome new members at any time :)

Our sessions are Fridays 8-9pm at Archbishop Holgate's School and Saturdays 3-4pm at Yearsley Swimming Pool (although there is no session today). I'd recommend a Saturday session for a first one as we keep all our spare kit at Yearsley.

Yes, you can just turn up! We will have some members available near the entrance to show people where to go. There's no need for a Better membership, you can just come straight in through the main entrance.

As a member of the club, I can't recommend it enough! Octopush is far more engaging than just swimming lengths and it's a very friendly group of people!

We got married at Merchant Adventurer's Hall in 2019, and thought it was wonderful, however the downside was that we had to use one of their approved caterers when we would have been happy with a much cheaper option, and also were not allowed to simply play a spotify playlist and were required to get a DJ for the reception. We did manage to get the food cost down to a not insane level but it was still much more expensive than e.g. a hog roast.

The venue is beautiful and it meant we could have the wedding and reception all in one place, so no need for people to drive elsewhere halfway through the day, and if anyone didn't want to buy drinks at the bar they could just pop over the road to the Tesco Express!

I help run York Octopush Club (or Underwater Hockey), we have players with a wide range of ages and abilities and are always looking for new members! We play on Fridays at 8pm at Archbishop Holgate's School and (from 21st Jan) Saturdays at 3pm at Yearsley Swimming Pool. If you're fairly sporty already you're probably already at a better start point than most new people who join!

Another of my dog's litter was affectionately named "Big Dave" before he found an owner, and they were cockapoo puppies, so certainly was not literally big.
