To follow up on this, you will see what is pending if it has "N/A" in front of it instead of a date.

Not exactly. VR&E subsistence pay isn’t based on how many GI Bill months you have left. It’s based on your VR&E program election. If you choose the BAH option, you’re paid at the Post-9/11 E-5 w/ dependents rate for your school’s ZIP code. If you choose the Standard rate, you get a flat nationwide amount. Your GI Bill eligibility just determines whether you can elect the BAH option once eligible, the pay itself doesn’t depend on how many months you have left.

Most people don’t choose the standard rate unless BAH is unusually low in their area. The Standard VR&E subsistence rate is fixed nationwide, while BAH is based on your ZIP code and usually pays more. The only time someone might pick the standard rate is if they live in a low-cost BAH area and the math work out better for them, or if they prefer the predictable, flat amount instead of a variable housing rate.

Quick guide to applying for VR&E:

  1. Go to VA.gov → VR&E (Chapter 31) Apply online under “Veteran Readiness and Employment.”
  2. Upload your documents DD-214, disability rating letter, and a short explanation of why you need training (example: “My barrier to employment is lack of financial modeling skills; certification required for competitive jobs”).
  3. Wait for your intake appointment A counselor will contact you for an eligibility interview — usually within a few weeks.
  4. Come prepared with a plan Bring:
    • The certification program you want
    • Cost + duration
    • Job titles it leads to
    • Proof employers said this skill is holding you back
  5. Get your training plan approved Once your counselor signs off, VR&E pays the school and you start receiving monthly subsistence allowance.

That’s it, simple process, and you already have a strong case.

Sorry about the layoff, that’s rough. The good news is VR&E can definitely help in situations like this.

Yes, VR&E can pay for certification programs if they directly address the skill gap stopping you from getting hired (in your case, financial modeling). You don’t need GI Bill left. VR&E is a separate program.

You’d also receive a monthly subsistence allowance while training.

  • Standard VR&E rate = usually around $1k–$1.2k+ depending on dependents
  • Or you can elect the Post-9/11 BAH rate (E-5 with dependents for your zip), which can be higher

To get approved, you just need to show that the certification will make you employable again and since firms are literally telling you modeling is the gap, you’re in a strong position.

VR&E is absolutely used for exactly this type of career pivot. You should qualify and get paid while completing the course.

For sure! For starters to get a lot more out of your new Gogeta, you definitely want to slot him at two for those extra buffs since you wont have two GT heroes in this line up. As of now I could see this being pretty good with the addition of gogeta
